Distressing news this weekend
« on: November 17, 2014, 09:30:24 AM »
I think we have 5 - 10 years (Mr. WPW thinks 15) until the SHTF.  The results of climate change and over population are really starting to show themselves.  There was one other article that I saw yesterday that I can't find, but will come back and add if/when I remember it.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2836785/We-running-chocolate-says-world-s-biggest-confectionary-producer.html

We watched this segment yesterday.  It said CA will be out of groundwater in 10 years, but that the legislation to limit consumption won't take effect for 25 years.

Before I reply to your interesting post about chocolate and H20 shortages I just have to ask... Where are you and Mr WPW on the believe-a-meter on your post? One (1) being (just joking) to ten (10) (The end of all life is upon us).

No trolling here...

OMFG! What will be of our lives without cocoa

"we're eating more than is being produced", so the cocoa price will be higher and producers will see a better profit on cocoa and produce more, or it will become a luxury item and cheap products will only have a chemical cocoa flavor, it happens all the time with every commodity.

Some people have a different view on Climate Change AKA Globing Warming.

I'm sorry there is no link. This was sent to me in an E-mail

Where does Carbon Dioxide really come from?

Ian Rutherford Plimer is an Australian geologist, professor emeritus of earth sciences at the University of Melbourne, professor of mining geology at the University of Adelaide, and the director of multiple mineral exploration and mining companies. He has published 130 scientific papers, six books and edited the Encyclopedia of Geology.

Born: 12 February 1946 (age 67)
Residence: Australia
Nationality: Australian
Fields: Earth Science, Geology, Mining Engineering
Institutions: University of New England, University of Newcastle, University of Melbourne, University of Adelaide
Alma mater: University of New South Wales, Macquarie University Thesis: The pipe deposits of tungsten-molybdenum-bismuth in eastern Australia (1976).
Notable Awards: Eureka Prize (1995, 2002), Centenary Medal (2003), Clarke Medal (2004)

Where Does the Carbon Dioxide Really Come From?
Professor Ian Plimer could not have said it better!

If you've read his book you will agree; this is a good summary.

PLIMER: "Okay, here's the bombshell. The volcanic eruption in Iceland. Since its first spewing of volcanic ash has, in just FOUR DAYS, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet - all of you.

Of course, you know about this evil carbon dioxide that we are trying to suppress - its that vital chemical compound that every plant requires to live and grow and to synthesize into oxygen for us humans and all animal life.

I know... it's very disheartening to realize that all of the carbon emission savings you have accomplished while suffering the inconvenience and expense of driving Prius hybrids, buying fabric grocery bags, sitting up till midnight to finish your kids "The Green Revolution" science project, throwing out all of your non-green cleaning supplies, using only two squares of toilet paper, putting a brick in your toilet tank reservoir, selling your SUV and speedboat, vacationing at home instead of abroad, nearly getting hit every day on your bicycle, replacing all of your 50 cent light bulbs with $10.00 light bulbs.....  well, all of those things you have done have all gone down the tubes in just four days.

The volcanic ash emitted into the Earth's atmosphere in just four days - yes, FOUR DAYS - by that volcano in Iceland which has totally erased every single effort you have made to reduce the evil beast, carbon. And there are around 200 active volcanoes on the planet spewing out this crud at any one time - EVERY DAY.

I don't really want to rain on your parade too much, but I should mention that when the volcano Mt. Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines in 1991, it spewed out more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than the entire human race had emitted in all its years on earth.

Yes, folks, Mt. Pinatubo was active for over one year - think about it.

Of course, I shouldn't spoil this 'touchy-feely tree-hugging' moment and mention the effect of solar and cosmic activity and the well-recognized 800-year global heating and cooling cycle, which keeps happening despite our completely insignificant efforts to affect climate change.

And I do wish I had a silver lining to this volcanic ash cloud, but the fact of the matter is that the bush fire season across the western USA and Australia this year alone will negate your efforts to reduce carbon in our world for the next two to three years. And it happens every year. Just remember that your government just tried to impose a whopping carbon tax on you, on the basis of the bogus 'human-caused' climate-change scenario.

Hey, isn't it interesting how they don't mention 'Global Warming' anymore, but just "Climate Change" - you know why?

It's because the planet has COOLED by 0.7 degrees in the past century and these global warming bull**** artists got caught with their pants down. And, just keep in mind that you might yet be stuck with an Emissions Trading Scheme - that whopping new tax - imposed on you that will achieve absolutely nothing except make you poorer.

It won't stop any volcanoes from erupting, that's for sure.

But, hey, relax... give the world a hug and have a nice day!"

Not going to turn this post into an argument on Climate Change - there are enough facts out there from the bulk of reputable scientists that you can Google if you want the facts.

That said, I actually think the water thing is VERY serious and could become a huge issue.  25% of our produce comes from CA.  We currently don't have localized food growing, processing, and distribution  infrastructure in place to handle food production regionally, and I don't believe oil will stay this cheap for long.  Not to mention how much groundwater India and other regions have lost.  Water is the next oil, and oil is still the next oil, if you know what I mean.

The chocolate thing is another symptom of what's coming, though obviously a much less serious issue than the water.  However, to me, this article highlights the timeline I think we're going to hit.  We're going to see more and more issues over the next 5 - 10 years.

You keep bringing up Global warming yet you don't want a reply

Yes I google and my serches don't match yours.

The Global Warming/Climate Change debate has entered the realm of religious type discussion. Everyone can argue with everyone citing all kinds of holy passages, or published articles until they are blue in the face and neither side is going to budge...

To those that believe I say: Good for you! I have no problem with you believing what ever it is you believe, and I hope you live a more fulfilling life because of it.
The second you try and press your beliefs on me with violence (government) than I will have a serious issue with it.

JoJo - I bring it up because it's a factual issue and I don't want to argue it because it would be like arguing if air is real.  It's not worth my time and, all due respect to those on here that for some unfathomable reason don't believe in climate change, it's irrelevant.  Just like I don't believe that President Obama is going to have death panels and put us all in FEMA camps, I am not going to argue with people who use that as an excuse to prep. Climate Change and the many disasters surrounding its effects are why I choose to prep.

Besides, when you do your "serches", how many of your sources have PhDs in climatology, meteorology, hydrology, and other environmental sciences?  Or do you rely on Alex Jones and Rush Limbaugh to tell you what to think?

It's import that you look at all sides of a question to not do so you move from being a student seeking knowledge to becoming the teacher whom knows everything...Even if it is wrong.

This Friedrich Nietzsche quote comes to mind... "That which you gaze upon you become."

Agreed - looking at all sides of an issue is important.  Believe it or not, I have on this issue and, well, I assume you can figure out my final conclusions on the matter. ;)
