I visit FB once a day. I have acquired over the years a nice group of friends both men & women that span the political spectrum. Here are two recent stories.

Story One:
A friend in LA who is a Liberal, Lesbian, Lawyer (I call her tongue & cheek) "L cubed" started a discussion on taxation and how folks from the Republican camp hate to pay their fair share - Ala taxes. I jumped in of course and gave an example of how 58,000 net/net NY Citizens left the state in 2018. I listed as number 1) Income and property taxes then 2) Politics in Albany, e.g. the new Infanticide Bill, gun laws, and other Progressive policy's past over the past 5-years.

Well L Cubed and her FB friends went absolutely nuts on me about pointing negatively at a women's right to choose issue. They called me "wacky' for believing that a white man who lives in the sky exists.

Once that avalanche of attacks settled down the ant-Christian and Jewish rhetoric started. I of course stated I am a Christian and a follower of Jesus Christ. Well it was like I had opened a new can of whip-ass all directed towards me, Christians, Jews, Deploarbles, Conservatives...Well you get the idea.

Then the dialog switched to anti-Trump rants and taking over the government if the Deplorables carry the day in 2020. To be quite frank, the hate on the left is palatable. Do not be fooled, we are already in a Civil War.

Story Two:
A personal friend of MrsMac and I for over 44-years I just unfriended on FB.

He was always a liberal leaning person however, we enjoyed his company and he never acted like a crazy leftest until recently. It started small, nonsensical posts, leftest memes, purposeful hate posts against anybody that did not support his expanding anti-American views.

On several occasions he posted such hateful things about Christians, Jews, and Conservatives that I called him on the phone or sent him an email asking him, "what's up?...Is everything OKay?" Well to make a long story, JohnyMac short, this past December his FB posts reached a crescendo of hate that I called him up on the phone and asked if all was well in his world. He informed me that if asshole Conservatives, like myself, didn't quiet down, "we" will silenced them before the 2020 elections. OUCH!

This man is the only person I ever "unfriended" on FB. MrsMac and I were heartbroken to literally loose this person as a friend. What has happened to him.

Some of you may read this and say, "Why bother with those folks?" Well I do it not to troll but to express another opinion. My opinion is always based in facts. I never name call, preach, or look down on someone else's opinion. I just try to share "the word" and offer an alternate opinion, again steeped with facts.

It seems like the masks are coming off. It seems like many on the left are so rapped up in their version of the truth, that they are attacking those that have a different reality on the world. Not debating the issue but literally attacking.

MrsMac thinks that they are scared people who in their own mind, are being cornered. And we all know what happens to a cornered animal.

I agree with her that they are scared. Scared that they know they are loosing ground maybe, to the "Silent Majority" or now labeled "Deplorables", that they will do desperate things in-order to stop the tide.

This is my story - Have you experienced similar? Have you experienced the heightened nastiness of late? Will you share? Why do you think things are getting nastier?

Your stories illustrate well why I'm not on facebook, though my wife does do facebook.  However, facebook does show who is on the Leftist side, so you're forewarned.  We have some long time friends (over three decades) that have veered Left, and have posted various things on facebook.  We've avoided any social gatherings with them, because they've become so vocal.  I try to maintain a grey man approach, there are no bumper stickers, lawn signs, etc., indicating my political or religious beliefs.  I'd rather be an unknown. than a target. 

    I think things are becoming nastier because the country is turning so far left, and people are sick of it.  The Left does not want to share power, and in their beliefs, it's either their way or the highway.  The typical Leftist will not accept opposing viewpoints.  I could care less if someone is straight or gay, but don't ram it down my throat.  I've found that the Right is much more tolerant of opposing viewpoints.  The Left is getting pissed and throwing a tantrum because not everyone thinks the way that they do.   They're getting hysterical because they're realizing that there's a lot of people who don't like their policies, regulations and attitudes.  Once they find that their hysterics aren't turning the masses, then they'll turn to armed violence.

civil discourse seems to be, well, not in vogue at the moment.
IMHO, principles trump feels.  i agree with the assertion that people are afraid But it doesn't excuse that behavior.

I have a couple of friends that are not whacky leftest but have just been duped into buying into the leftist point of view for no other reason than they haven't educated themselves to the point of realizing the leftist end game agenda is Communism. I've compared the traits of Narcissist with those of the radical left and they match up perfectly. That has led me to the conclusion that both are a mental disorder and I'm not a Doctor so I can't help them. Since I'm a Christian, I know what is coming is unstoppable but we win in the end after unbearable suffering. If I find someone who will listen to the truth and I can get them to open their closed minds, then I've saved at least one from being on the losing side. I find it very difficult to not get angry at the radical lefties but I force myself to remember that they, just like me, have a choice and I feel sorry for them for choosing the wrong side.

As far as that other guy, he is the true whackdoodle.  As was discussed in the Merchant of Venice, at length truth will out.

The hate, anger, and I guess fear, is a sad state of affairs. Just think of what will happen if "they" don't get their way between now and Nov. 4th 2020 - The day after the next national election.

I received my copy (free) of Hillsdale College Imprimis https://imprimis.hillsdale.edu/  and the lead story this month is about defending our common history https://imprimis.hillsdale.edu/shall-defend-common-history/ 

In the article he says that the saying used to be, "I may not agree with what you are saying, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

Now it is, "I do not agree with what you are saying, so you cannot say it!"

My wife has unfriended several on facebook.  She and one party had a conversation and agreed to stay away from politics and they have done fine, but only one person.

We have noticed more angry people, angry drivers, more angry talk, less civility.

I have an Aunt who is very far down the liberal Kool Aid bowl. My common refrain is that she would sell our family out in an instant if it meant double rations in the bread line. I said that recently to my family and they all laughed but then pretty much all agreed.

I have some TRUMP supporters in my extended family but most are anti-TRUMP. One even went far enough to hint his father didn't approve of TRUMP in his eulogy at his father's own funeral. Guess TRUMP got the last laugh by that admission.

Maybe one or two would sell me out but most wouldn't. They would however meet me on the battlefield.

That was my question as well. If it is the latter, why would you think that they would take that step but not the much easier step of selling you out? If it is the former, it is always good to have those that will stand beside you.

I find the current state of affairs to be disheartening.

I do not normally comment anymore on political or religious posts on Facebook. Not due to being hesitant to voice my beliefs.

Mainly due to being veteran that is sick of the civilian populace being so easily influenced by crap. This happens over and over again in history. Our societies appear to be unable to learn any lesson from history.

So I concentrate on mine and my owns safety. Keeping a weary eye on the idiocy surrounding us.

When a populace cannot critically think for themselves. Things begin to fall apart. You cannot reason with this type of person. Because they have lost or given up the ability for reasoned thought.
