I'm kinda on the fence about this one.

I'm sure he was an evil bastard, and planned on killing a lot of innocent people.  For that alone, he deserves to die.

However....

He is (was) an American citizen.  His assassination was a clear violation of the 5th amendment.

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

Basically, our government has publicly assassinated one of it's own citizens.  Here's an article that elaborates on this...

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the son of a bitch is dead.  But if we are going to give trial to the "911 Hijackers"  (who aren't US citizens), then why wasn't this guy captured and given a trial before execution?

I applaud your response and think you have a GREAT point.  It clearly shows how ass-backwards our country is today.  Time for the reset button?  :))

here's where I think the BS comes in...

many of the "attacks" that Awlaki orchestrated were the result of FBI entrapment. that's not conspiracy theory, it's fact. (not that the underwear bomber/times square bomber... etc. weren't assholes to begin with.. they were) so if the FBI knew enough about these supposed plans to infiltrate and entrap the perps, couldn't they have just as easily followed the info trail back to Awlaki and captured or killed him any of those other times? these are just my thoughts and speculations.

just my gut feeling: I think this is just another piece of propaganda, another notch on the bedpost for Obama. my mind may change slightly if they come out with concrete proof of the assassination, but until then it's just another "we got him, and then dumped his body in the ocean... just trust us" type of thing.

I've got plenty to say about this.  Unfortunately it would get this thread banished to the "Secret Section".   I will say this on his American citizen status.  He had dual citizenship.  I'm sure they only caused life threatening injuries to the non-American citizen side of him.

Based on the current info given to us, the citizens, I have to agree with Ron and Gary.

Maybe this is just my paranoia, but I find this whole Al-Awlaki  thing a plausible excuse for a retaliatory attack. I'm saying this under my breath and in a whisper so don't hide the thread, "Who would really be doing the attacking?"

Why would someone hide the thread over you expressing a legitimate concern?
