Gadget, the press here is becoming more and more anti Mrs. Clinton - Cable & MSM. She just has too much baggage I think even for them.
Personally Wellie, I to wish that Sen. Sanders would be the Democratic Presidential candidate. I think there needs to be a national discussion on Capitalism and Socialism. The Elites in the democratic party will never allow this even if the FBI recommends indictment of Clinton though. They will pull someone out of moth balls to run.
One thing the forum may not be aware of - Lenin coined the phrase "Democratic Socialism" when he allowed limited capitalism in 1921. The State coffers were empty so he allowed limited capitalism and a more softer stance hence the Democratic Socialism term vs. Communism to try and fill them.
Now on Mr. Trump....My barometer on him as we lead up to the November Presidential election is whether Rep. Ryan and others get behind his candidacy. Add to that statement a list of whom he would want to be on his cabinet and Justices he would nominate for the SCOTUS. Today, my concern of Trump are his comments which seem to be Statism with some Nationalistic nuances thrown in for good measure. Being a President is not the same as being a King or Emperor. You have two other equal branches of government to deal with. Mr. Obama has forgotten this fact.
Interesting story: Yesterday MrsMac and I went to our favorite Sunday breakfast restaurant. The place became packed after we sat down and the owner asked us if a couple could sit at our 4-top. We of course said "Sure."
The couple was a father and daughter. The father was in his early 80's and had a stroke about a year ago which he shared with us as soon as he sat down. His daughter was in her late 40's/early 50's.
As we chatted MrsMac and I found out that the daughter was a teacher of 5th graders. Her specialty was reading. After chatting about spring crops, wood cutting and the past deer season, the conversation changed to politics.
The daughter told us that she was a Sen. Sanders fan. I asked her why? She told us, "I think that the people we send to Washington are in cahoots with the capitalists on Wall Street." She continued with, "And Hillary is at the top of the food chain of that group of folks."
She then asked us who we were supporting for President.
MrsMac explained that she liked Cruz because he was a Constitutionalist and he was an outsider in DC. I agreed and said, "with Sen. Cruz suspending his run we are two citizens without a candidate." The dad asked us why we were not getting on the Trump bandwagon and I told him that "Trump has not won us over as yet and may not."
For kicks and giggles I asked the dad who was he going to vote for. His response was, "Trump!" I asked him to elaborate and he said, "I have voted Democrat all of my life with the exception of Reagan in 80 and didn't vote for Obama's second term - I stayed home that election." He continued with, "Hillary is crook and I think Trump doesn't give a shit what the newspapers or other politicians think." I said, "Kind of like Reagan?" He replied with a firm, "YUP!"
I do believe that the rank and file across the country are feeling like the father and daughter sitting with us Sunday. I wonder how many other conversations like the one we had are being discussed that Sunday and Sunday's to come at breakfast joints across the country.
