My "we are screwed vote is based upon the simple fact the Hillary Clinton is being shown as the best of America in the global press. Here in the UK they think she is the second coming....

You draw your own conclusions......

Ask yourself what is REALLY going to happen in the next election.....

Do you really have faith that the majority of the voting populace will vote in an intelligent manner?

Of all the candidates.... Hillary has the most chance of winning...

If I am wrong... then I will eat humble pie.....

In any/all societies... They fail... Then they rebuild and get better as they build on the ruins of "their"society (s).

We (USA) is probably overdue for some kind of national strife/revolution. Similarly in the EU.

Other countries have had revolutions and financial strife; however was unable to build on the previous corrupt government and or ruins.

We are screwed to the point if you cannot survive 3 months on your own you will be gone.  Society will reorganize to the point of small local basically self sufficient villages.  As time passes they will begin to reorganize like society did way back in the early to mid 1700s.

Be ready to feed and defend yourself and neighbors because after about 30-45 days govt, military, and dems in general will be gone and the only things left will be what you have and can keep from the tribes of folks from areas who have what they have by taking it from those who stored stuff beforehand.

The trick as I see it is all in evaluating and choosing your area and tribe as well as carefully considering the future local pool of potential tribe members and enemies.
As I get older I find some dark humor in the comment from the knight in the second Indiana Jones movie "He chose poorly".

I'll change my vote to screwed after clinton takes office. I think that'll be the nail in the coffin. I don't have much faith in the "vote" system. I think the outcome has been decided before hand, especially now that voting machines are "programmed" and electronic.

I just looked at the votes.  I seem to be the only non-pessimist so far.

but like JM said;
what we are now as a society has survived several collapses.  as a species we seem to pick up the pieces and become stronger.  I do understand that we have also raised the stakes in this game but if past is prologue, we'll fall down and rebuild.  I just want to soften the blow when we do fall.

I have noticed that when civilizations are merging and incorporating new ideas it is painful for the 'old guard' (used to describe myself) but does re-invigorate it.  it is when a society stagnates that it fails.  As interesting as things are in our world, I would not refer to it as stagnation.  that doesn't mean that we couldn't fall from here.  I think of it like a stair case with no railings and the lights are off.  its easy to wander off the side and fall.  it is really easy to fall off at the landings when you don't know what direction the stairs continue.
