As I am posting this it appears that a military coup is going forward to oust current Venezuela President Maduro. Here are a few articles in no particular order reporting on this event.
American PartisanMass protests are scheduled in Venezuela as conditions have continued to deteriorate under the socialist Maduro regime. Although the rally in Barquisimeto was cancelled due to opposition party leader Juan Guaido being restricted from travelling outside the nation’s capital, mass unrest is planned for Wednesday which could be the spark for a larger internal action. Simultaneously expect a large scale crackdown on part of the government against those protesting for a society free of socialist nepotism, incompetence and oppression.Thomas Reuters FoundationSeveral dozen armed men in military uniform accompanying Guaido clashed with soldiers supporting Maduro at a protest outside the La Carlota air base, Reuters witnesses said, but the incident fizzled out and did not appear to be part of an immediate attempt by the opposition to take power by force.
Guaido, in a video posted on Twitter earlier on Tuesday, said he had begun the "final phase" of his campaign to topple Maduro, calling on Venezuelans and the military to back him. BBCVenezuelan authorities say they are putting down a small coup attempt after opposition leader Juan Guaidó announced he was in the "final phase" of ending President Nicolás Maduro's rule.
He appeared in a video with uniformed men, saying he had military support.
Mr Guaidó, who declared himself interim president in January, called for more members of the military to help him end Mr Maduro's "usurpation" of power.PoliticoPresident Donald Trump’s top aides on Tuesday publicly backed an attempted coup in Venezuela, where opposition leaders have teamed with a band of rebellious soldiers in an effort to oust strongman leader Nicolás Maduro.
Supporting the uprising is a risky proposition for the Trump administration. Maduro, who retains the loyalty of many of his military generals, may survive and many Latin Americans resent America’s history of backing coups throughout the region. Russia and Cuba are also propping up Maduro. If Maduro has a tight reign on his military, I suspect this coup will be averted and Guaidó will be shot. If Guaidó is successful, I suspect US Special Forces where providing the guidance behind the scenes. We will all know the outcome within the next 48-hours or so. Stay tuned.
