DHS wants you to disable Java?
« on: January 13, 2013, 06:25:59 PM »
Didn't check to see if anyone started a thread on this, but here's a link to start looking into the urgent request issued by homeland security to uninstall Java.  Not sure what to make of it, but that's for you all to decide for yourselves...

Didn't heard about it, and the articles don't provide any detail, I'll see if I found anything else I'll keep you posted.

Anyway... When a security flaw is discovered without no one knowing, its called "0 Day", there are tons of 0 Days that are sold specially to criminals doing card fraud or shit like that, or to government security agencies.
For instance, Stuxnet, a computer worm created to damage Iran's nuclear centrifuges used 3 0 Day bugs in its code.

So, what's my point... My point is that DHS is calling you to turn off Java, but that flaw was since who knows how long in your computer so you got plenty of opportunities to get exploited before the warning, I wouldn't give a fuck about this issue, and just try to keep all my software updated.

Thanks for jumping in, APX!  This "urgent" request has apparently been all over the news here.  From what I can tell, programmers are saying that they have known about these issues for a while, just as you said, so why is this suddenly such a big deal?

The reason I posted the link that I did is because it's the only thing I found in my quick search in which people were being skeptical and talking technically about the programming flaws.  I know enough programming to mess around with statistics and graphs, but this shit eludes me...
