?Red Dawn? Villains Switched from China to North Korea

According to the LA Times, the filmmakers have decided to change the villains yet again. Instead of the Chinese,  North Korean soldiers will now invade the U.S. in the Red Dawn remake. The switch was made in an effort to give the film greater box office appeal in China ? which has become one of the most profitable markets for American movies.

Around the time MGM first delayed the release of Red Dawn, a Chinese newspaper called the Global Times expressed concerns that the film would demonize their state and its citizens (thanks in part to certain leaked images from the set). Evidently, this may have been a factor in scaring off potential distributors who were apprehensive about what effect their involvement with the film would have on future dealings with China.

So without any official complaints from the Chinese government, MGM will spend $1 million to construct a new opening sequence, re-edit several scenes, and digitally change Chinese symbols into Korean. It may sound somewhat ridiculous, but the fact of the matter is that the studio really had no alternative. If the film fails to secure distribution, it could wind up going straight to video ? or being permanently shelved.

This was supposed to be out in 2009.

The rumor was that the Chinese bought the company that was going to produce it. They didn't like it as the original attach was by the Chinese.

Then it was supposed to come out in 2011 and the Chinese had been changed to N. Koreans.   [img]http://www.arrse.co.uk/at

So who are we fighting in this version?

Edit Added: Sorry EJR, I made my post I guess when you were doing the same.

OK...

I went to see this opening night last night.  Was not sure what to expect when I walked into the theater and there really wasnt a lot of people in there and alot of them looked like they were there for Twilight but in the wrong theater.  So lights dim... Music starts... And here is how I personally sum up the movie...

F***ING AWESOME!

While the movie was not an exact reproduction of the first one, several points were different but not a bad thing, I would see it again in the theater and will probably buy it when it comes out on DVD/Blu-Ray.  It had moments of comedy, moments definitely for the chicks in the audience, moments of emotion, and several moments that caused the entire audience to clap and cheer, my party included.

In closing I would HIGHLY recommend this movie for EVERYONE, GUYS AND GIRLS, as a must see.  SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?  GO NOW!!!

My 2 cent review:

Finally saw it and I was disappointed.  Yes the action was was ok, but for such a hyped up movie, I found the character depth, dialogue and story were lacking.  Probably due to the hacked-up edit job that China forced the studio to do.  It was pretty much a dumbed-down shoot-em-up action movie version of the original.  It started off good, but by the last half I was expecting Jean-Claude Van Damme or Dolph Lundgren to pop up at any minute.

There were a few cool ambush scenes that make it worth a watch... but still not good enough to make me buy it or pay to see it.

When it comes out on DVD I will watch it. I will not go to the theater though. Heck,  the closest theater to here is a good 45-60 minute drive away!  :))

I just finished watching "Red Dawn" you know, the remake of Wolverines.
I started watching it expecting to see all kind of stupid teenager shit, but I was gratefully surprised.
The plot isn't the same that in the original movie, although it follows the same guidelines, and it has cool action scenes.

Its a nice movie for a rainy day  [img]http://www.smileydesign.n

Thanx APX for the quick review. I was against watching the movie as N.Koreans attacked us Vs. Chinese. A movie for a rainy day is different.  :))

There was a moment or two that I enjoyed in this film but I spent the majority of the film yelling at the characters.

I won't mention what I was yelling because I don't want to spoil it for you guys who haven't seen it, why can't hollywood get anything right?

It's alright, but they could have went in depth a lot more in several areas instead of being another "BOOM BOOM ACTION" flick. But it's still alright.

Well a good friend of my Bro's was up with him to help us hook up our circuit breaker and electric. Through Roku/Amazon we watched Red Dawn II.

This how we rated the film:

> By wife 3.0
> My bro 3.0
> Electrical friend 4
> JohnyMac 2
For a total rating of... 3

All in all it was an O-Kay movie for siting at the BOL on a Saturday night. Thank heavens I didn't spend the $$$ to go to the movies to see it.

I'm sorry, but that movie sucked!!!  If it wasn't the the good lookin' dude that survived most, all, some of the movie ( don't want to spoil it for anyone), that would have been worthless.  What the fuck have you done to me TG?  We spent the entire time saying, "that was dumb", "WTF", "that would never happen"...

TG, if I ever start making out with you because you just saved my life, but time is vital (fucking ricky tic) Russians, Norkies, Newfies everywhere (sorry Frosty :))), just put one in my temple, it'd be well deserved.

LOL ThatGirl! Based on your movie review I 'think' you may not have liked the movie.  :))

I do not want to spoil it for all of the others "Jone-zen" for a good action movie; however, it's a looser and I am glad I only spent $3.95 or so for it. The best part was the exchange of groans and laughter that came from my three movie watching ca-padres.  [url=http://www.freesmileys.or
