Mine was a tossup of Jhonny Tremain, Starship Troopers, or Metro 2023. [url=http://yoursmiles.org/p-m

Milagro Bean Field War by John Nichols. I recommend it to everyone who will listen and have bought and given away countless copies. Mr. Nichols really captures the New Mexician experience.

Love Story.  Don't make fun of me.  I was 16 and bored so I picked it up cause it was laying there.  If you think it's strange now, if you knew me back then you would have really thought it was out of character.

I couldn't put it down.  I stayed up all night reading it.  The two reasons I remember it are it was the first time in my life I remember feeling empathy for someone else and I balled like a snotty nosed baby.

To me that's a big deal.  I've only cried three time in my life.

I have two:

White Devil by Stephen Brumwell The store of Roger's Rangers campaign against St. Francis on the St. Lawrence, and
The Stand by Steven King

I based these two on how many times I have re-read them.

The best book Ive read for a while would Be House to House from SSGT. David Bellavia. its about the battle of fallujah and the events that took place before. its a real gritty first person account.

Second on the list would be a vietnam first person book called Death In The A-Shou Valley. Its about LRPS is the shit. Writer and main character Larry Chambers. Great read, another gritty one.

When it comes to fiction and fantasy, The Incarnations of Immortality (9) from piers Anthony and The Dark Tower from Stephen King.

I would have to say Marine Sniper by Charles Henderson, and the sequel Silent Warrior.

The first book is the story of Carlos' Marine Corps career and deployments to Vietnam.  He was instrumental to bringing the sniper into 20th century warfare.  The second book is a must read if you have read the first one.  It fills in a lot of the gaps from the first one and talks about him after the war.

Guess im the weirdo here who still reads the Hobbit. I loved the Shannara series, the Sword of truth and the wheel of time. But my all time favorite author is Raymond E Fiest. And the demon war saga, which starts with Shadow of a dark queen. Right now im reading Steven Ericksons, Malazan book of the fallen and loving it. But thats when im not reading a gardening or prepping books. And yes Marine Sniper was a great read  :boltAction: And i still have a soft spot for Animal Farm.

I really can't pick the best non-prepping book I've read. A few of the many first hand accounts by Canadian and American soldiers during wars are great, The Hobbit and those assorted books are awesome, Huck Finn, To Kill A Mocking Bird, the list goes on and on really.

I enjoyed Orwell's, "Homage to Catalonia". Also, probably not on most preppers reading list but, "Living My Life" by Emma Goldman.

"Harbinger" by Jonathan Cahn. I think I've bumped the book before. It's definitely not about prepping, but a good catalyst for it and a good representation of the times we live in.
Aside from that probably one of my favorites was Chuck Yeager's autobiography.  I used to read a lot more when I was younger. I dug through every "Star Wars" book in publication when I was about 14. Some C.S. Lewis, enjoyed Charles Dickens "Great Expectation," but my favorite was Jack London's "White Fang" among the classics.

Obviously though my absolute favorite, and one that belongs in my BOB, is my Bible.  ;) Not sure how much Darwin's "Origin of Species" would help me out when the shit starts flying in all directions.  :lmfao:

Correction. I could use it (Darwin's book) for fire starter. 8)
