This book gives information for instances when there is a long term grid down disaster, or when you're in a remote location and professional medical assistance isn't available. It was written by a group of medical professionals, and several of the authors are ex-military special forces medics. It provides lots of illustrations and photos. Interestingly, it is available in a number of formats. It is available free as a PDF file:

http://www.lulu.com/shop/discussion-group-rawtwm/survival-austere-medicine-an-introduction-black-white-hardcover/hardcover/product-23509895.html It is sold at production cost only, without a mark up, the authors are not making a profit from this book. The hardcover black and white edition sells for $29.25 USD. The book is available in other print formats, softcover, color, etc., but the color editions are over $100.00. At over 600 pages, the book is massive, but full of important information. The book doesn't substitute as a physician, but it could provide the information necessary to ensure the you or a loved one survives a medical emergency.
