A Yank in England

Hi All,

I am so sorry that I posted my land for sale thread before coming here to do an intro.

So here we are.

I am retired military. NO I was not SF, SEAL or Ranger... ;-)

Sorry had to do that. I served 10yrs in Line Infantry units and the last ten years at the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit. I did have a rather unique career and am proud of the 20yrs I did.

So I married a Brit and she came to the states and did her time as an Army Wife. At the end of my career she got to choose where we would go. So we came to the UK.

We had planned to return to the States and set up a homestead. As with most things in life things change.

Now we are preppers in the UK. Believe it or not there are advantages in the UK that people don't consider.

So here we are. We are going to stay over here.

We have decided to live on a boat. Now I am not talking boat as in tiny little thing. I am talking ocean going "where the heck did you get that thing" boat.

Everything we have found that we like averages 124ft in length.

More than enough space for a family. Though I want enough room for the rest of family and friends.

I hope to be a positive contributor to the forum and I hope that those I may have pissed off might forgive me.

Hi all,

We intend to travel with the boat so may hit the states once in a while.

We are looking at something like a north sea trawler. Between 100 and 150 ft in length.

MrsMac and I lived on a 30 foot sailboat for eleven years. If I had the cash I would buy a 45' Trawler and cruise the world. But alas we are stuck on land for awhile.

The last time we were in GB we spent most of our time in the West Midlands but did pop down to Bristol in SW England to spend some time in Bristol

Then spent another 10 days or so in Scotland visiting family.

Have a pint on me!

Respect to you for taking to the open waters. I have often thought of it as a usable plan but I have an uncontrollable fear of bodies of water (I don't even like getting in the tub after camping because I can't see my feet in the muddy water).
