Yep. Let's see the essence of a rootbeer float can be achieved with rootbeer and milk.

You know Twitch there is a alcoholic root beer float. I think it is:

a couple of scoops of ice cream
a couple of shots of vodka
and root beer to fill up the glass.

What the hell is root beer? The name sounds vile.

I like my root beer strong with hints of black licorice.  I don't know if I hold with this diluting via dairy products.

Some people say I have done the dilution thing.  It is said it happened in the dark of night where no one would have seen.  I deny it but I admit if it happened someone else could have been there. 

Dilution with the vodka I can see.  Best achieved with Finlandia.  Many people think Stoly or Absolute but those people do not know of what they speak.

WPW, just like you, I do not admit to the dairy dilution.  I do like the black licorice but also prefer a bit of cinnamon and on occasion ginger.

Ah, acceptable dilution!  Something I think sounds just rotten, but tastes delish: tequila and root beer.  You need a warmer root beer, though, something light, not one of the darker, more complex brews.  One part tequila to two parts root beer.  To my knowledge I'm the only one weird enough to try this, so I've dubbed it Rocky's Horror - I'm sure you can guess what we were watching when I tried it for the first time.

Next time I watch that, I shall drink one in your honor there WPW.  Although the tequila part may be a choke down.   I am not much of an appreciator of that.
