I've got the Midland - GXT1000VP4 the ones he mentions in that article. I've really liked them. One of the benefits of them we got early on was when my wife was working at Wal-Mart they used those exact same radios in house so they would let her buy, at their cost, the radios & accessories for it since they bought so many. We only got 4 and a few accessories before she left there (I did use my 10% discount on a good bit of ammo though!) They are generally pretty sturdy, they take a lot of use & abuse at that store & still held up fairly well. Also pretty good range, cause Wal-Mart is about 3-4 miles away & we can hear them quite clearly. They've also got more channels than a lot of the FRS radios have, which I like cause then I can use those with less people likely to hear if I would prefer they don't. FWIW, they have my stamp of approval!
