Title: Your fave superhero
Post by: 1000meterstare on March 03, 2013, 12:34:10 AM
I know mine isn't a standard choice, but I like the Shadow.  He was originally evil but found redemption.  He rocks twin long-slide 1911's and has a great underground network like every guerilla fighter for justice should.  Unfortunately the politicians in Washington and media has stolen his power to "cloud men's minds."

Post your faves here!

Not a comic book guy so all I know about superheros comes from movies. I gotta go with the Punisher (Thomas Jane not Ray Stevenson) the only practical superhero I've come across and he doesn't wear spandex.

No favorite super hero's only past hero's that were mortal and died. Some are:

> Robert Rogers
> Daniel Morgan
> Benedict Arnold - Before becoming a traitor
> Jeb Stuart
> John Mosby...

To name a few.

I was going to say men like,

Sergeant First Class Randall David Shughart (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_Shughart)

Master Sergeant Gary Ivan Gordon  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Gordon)

These men didn't wear tights or capes yet they managed to stack bodies knowing that they would end up in the pile before long.

"Of course the greatest hero of all time is undoubtedly... Jesus Christ." Walker wrote...I concur!

Funny you mention sewing and making your own frontier clothes. I was heavily involved in reenacting in the late 90's on up to the middle 2000's. I made legging's and moccasins out of brain tanned deer hides. Made a hunting smock too out of linen that resembled a night shirt. Used a sash for a belt with a scalper and tomahawk. Topped it off with a brown hat with a broad brim and a low crown.

Shooting accoutrements were:

> Late Lancaster Flint lock, (made for me by Matt Avance at Tennessee Valley Muzzleloading)
> Shooting bag and
> Powder horn.

My persona was post American Revolution: explorer, woodsman, hunter. I need to get back to treken and participating in woods walks again.  [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co

To this day I may miss a center fire rifle deer season but I will not miss muzzleloaderdeer season.

Hey if you have a picture share and I will do likewise.

That's like asking "what's your favorite band?, movie?", there need to be genres or categories of sorts.

Favorite tv superhero: Superman (George Reeves was dreamy), although Batman with Adam West was awesome too...

Favorite superhero to dress up as: Wonder Woman, although my Robin costume commands a respect that the character himself never new ;)

Favorite superhero from a graphic novel: Batman (Arkham Asylum)

Favorite chick superhero: Sucker Punch

Favorite modern day pioneer: Walker (I think your mullet was bitchin')-- Oops, I took too long to type and now it's a tie with JM.

Wow, I am a bigger geek than I thought...  :-[

Yeah hj. I loved those woods walks! Our R&G club has 18 stations for the walk. My favorite was the running boar.

The gong was shaped like a boar and someone would pull on a rope and the boar would run (move) about 25 yards left and/or right. To this day I never hit it.

Oh, you are a sly one HJ.  Much like the sleeping bag pics, those costumes are a little too racy for the forum.  Wouldn't want to divert any of the attention away from TG's glorious beard  ;)

ThatGirl, aw shucks you made me blush.  I can't say I have ever known a geek with sap in their hair, you must be a tree geek variety.  You will be my hero too when you say "yes" to TG.  I know you can do it, heros have courage!
I'd like to see the always stoic Walker blush, I'd add it to the list of things I never thought I'd see...  As far as the other thing, couldn't you peer pressure me into something a little less reckless and more exciting, marriage is so blase  ::)

BTW- saying "yes" to TG is like passing a legislative bill.  You have to pay very close attention to all of the shit tacked on.  He has very rigid ideas about what a wife should do, some of which is illegal in most states, not to mention I wouldn't have time to work, with all of the tortilla making and sewing...   ;D

My hero is actually present on YouTube.
Did anyone else start singing "Wind beneath my wings" when they read that?  That's sweet Reaver, you didn't even say "no homo" :))

Whoa, Whoa, Whoa... T-Girl you sew? I wasn't aware that women under the retirement age could sew. Always thought it was a special ability that came in the mail with the first social security check. Where are these rare specimens kept, because my sewing is terrible, effective but terrible.

When we get home I will have to see if I have any left post the flood. I know that most of my negatives got thrown out as they were ruined. But I may have a pic or two stuck between pages in a book being used as a book mark.

I admire many super hero's, too many to list them all here.  They are super hero's to me because in brief moments, during overwhelming times, they made extraordinary choices.

I tell one because they consisted of a group.   William B. Travis,  James Bowie,  Davy Crockett, and 179 other men looked over the ramparts of the Alamo at Antonio L?pez de Santa Anna's magnificently attired 1500 man army. When ordered to surrender or die they replied in laymen's terms, "Go F*** Yourself!"
(In an interesting side note. Last week, Travis's letter sent out by currier at night between Mexican lines, which asked all Americans who sided with freedom and liberty to come to the aid of the men in San Antonio, returned to the Alamo for the first time since it left 177 years earlier.)

As I said, there are many super hero's I have admired.  They have already made those extraordinary kinds of choices in their lifetimes.   I wonder who will be the super hero's of tomorrow.

I have been known to sew, not well, but it has happened a few times out of necessity.  Most of it is good from far, but far from good.  TG hosts a fantasy of having homemade jeans and shirts, but I would rather stitch a wound than fabric.  I can also knit-- ask TG about his 8 ft long scarf, or the knit cap that wouldn't even fit a baby's head  :))

Like you said, CS, my sewing is also terrible, but effective.  At the end of the day, I know that I could stitch a man into his bed sheets, make a festive pillow case to fill with oranges or soap, and beat the sass right out of him.  Not to get all Martha Stewart on you, but a little club soda will get the blood right out  ;)

Oh, I am the lobbyist trying to pass the deal of the century.  You think those cigars I bring don't have strings attached?  I did watch that movie you guys gave me, now I am on a mission to save the human race through encouraging the brightest among us to procreate.  Of course I can't condone that until the "M" thing happens.  What if I take some pressure off of you, I can do your sewing and tortilla making, and I have a prescription to keep TG's sordid desires in check.  Deal?
I agree to nothing unless I'm getting a good shake out of the deal.  Cigars are a good start...

I'm intrigued.  These sordid-desire pills, do they only work on men?  :o

Not that I'm thinking about it yet, but if TG and I were to take the long leap off a short pier, meld our hearts, become one, yadda yadda... and have kids, can babies share food bowls with the dogs, or would we have to get them their own?  ???

BTW- the movie we gave Walker was "Idiocracy", great premise, horrible movie.

JM knows more than he is often willing to share.  There are actually a few studies that support that kids raised with dogs have a lower risk for allergies.  Dog spit... it does the body good.

Tgirl, you will get a great shake out of the deal... a warm bed at the BOL (cuz the bearded one will be in it), and first choice of throwing out any in-laws at the BOL.  I'll even throw in a couple goats to his dowry, as a man in NM should have earned his weight in goats before marriage.  Too good to pass up!
Okay, I'll quit teasing and ease your worried minds.  I'm an old fashion gal in a lot of ways and we will get married before kiddos, we just have to wait a couple of years til I'm done with school.  I'm having enough trouble keeping the two of us fed healthy, in clean clothes (well, before I go out and get sap on everything at work), and not living in our own filth while I work 40-80 hours depending on the week, (my record was 136 hrs one week-- oh, grad school), so the baby thing ain't happening now.  Thanks for the concern and the vote of confidence that our genes are worth passing on!

Nope, no Vans.  Honest, never owned a pair.  I usually wore cowboy boots, wrestling shoes, or moccasins... I was and still am weird.

Just seeing a pair makes me want to moon walk and break down into a rendition of thriller.
Really? everyone had a pair of checker board vans.  Wrestling shoes are great as long as you don't walk over any rocks in them.  I just picked up mine from my folks house-- still fit too, just a little dusty...

We're gonna need to see this moon walk... no matter how much whiskey it takes...  ;)
