Title: Why Does The Russian Army Need A Lot More Snipers?
Post by: sledge on November 03, 2011, 09:42:52 PM
This article has some surprises in it.  Such as the Russian General Staff deciding to continue issuing the Dragunov SVD 7.62-millimeter, a weapon they at one time had decided to do away with.  As indicated in the article, why the rush?  Also mentioned, the way they are moving with this would only make sense if conflict in an urban environment was being contemplated.  The question is, whose urban environment?

Probably just like the Chinese, they are going to need to come get the money that is owed to them by force, eventually, unless our current group of criminals just gives them all the public lands first, which is a possibility, I guess.  I mean just look at the type politicians our country of idiot voters continues to vote into office.

From what I understand, the russians have always had more toys at the squad level. Look at the RPK, the closest we've had to that was the BAR and now the IAR. Same with designated marksman rifles, it was unheard of in the US military for a long time.

Also, the SVD is not a sniper's rifle, and these guys the article is referring to aren't true snipers in the way we think of them.
