Title: What camera do you use?
Post by: JohnyMac on July 20, 2013, 09:31:53 AM
I am always impressed with the video's our members post which has prompted me to ask these questions:

1) What camera do you use?
2) What sound system do you use, e.g. personal mike, open mike, etc?
3) What editing program do you use?

When in college it was a requirement to take two semesters of film to get your journalism sheep's skin. Back then I used a Bolex 16mm camera and a separate reel to reel tape recorder. In the edit room, you cut and literally glued film together. Then sync'd sound to film. It was quite a process augmented with lots of cigarettes and coffee.

Thanks!

Gopro hero 3
The internal mic that comes with the camera, however the hard case it's in muffles when in use. Seeing as it rains everyday here. Most of my stuff is muffled.
Windows live movie maker lol

I use an Aiptek 1080, just the Mike on the camera. I've thought about getting fancier- but I am happy with the quality (look at some of my really old vids before I had this camera!)

I used to use iMovie, but switched back to a Microsoft machine and use Movie Maker- the program that comes with it.

Thanks Gents!

The GOPRO RvR is pricy at $399-. I am sure it is worth every cent for action oriented folks like yourself.

Currahee, the Aiptek 1080 is more my price at $100-.

The reason I am asking about a camera is that I thought I would try my hand at making a few video's. I have been reluctant to do so to this point as you can find a video on YT for just about anything. I'm a "don't reinvent the wheel" type of guy.

Thanks.

RvR, why do you always have to bring color into everything?  Black vs. silver :lmfao:

Thanks man

Depending on the type of video's your doing.

Like mine are fast orientated. Go with the Go pro, I get about 4 hours worth of footage at 1080P at 30 frames a second on a 32 G card. The battery dies prior to getting the four hours though. If your doing interview style video's it will work fantastic also, the Pan angle is huge. Basically anything in front of the camera till just shy of 180 degrees is on it. I'd give it about 160 pan, its freakin massive. That being said everything past about 15-20 feet gets hard to see details.
Example would be some footage I captured earlier this week trying to get a positive Id on a tattoo being worn by a juvenile. He was about 10 feet away and the picture quality wasn't that great. We could positively Id it but it was a pain in the ass.

My $0.02 Hope it helps.
