That really kicks ass NOLA. I'm sure for you, that you probably wouldn't mind if the AC went off for a few days every 6 months so that you could keep ongoing relationships building in your AO, and maybe, just maybe, you'd get to know them, and also keep tabs on any new comers to the neighborhood as well. It could be a major positive event for networking and helping the rest of the AO to become more self-sufficient (as one can be in a city) and maybe even build somewhat of a resilient community.
Remember GAP and I coming on here and talking about setting up a Swap Meet, Farmer's Market, or starting a "Gardening Club," "Community Beautification Advocacy Club" or other such Community event (Be creative, the name doesn't necessarily have to fit what the club eventually does or turns into) to get out there and meet your neighbors and maybe even accidentally getting them into something that could take one step closer to create a resilient community?
Swap Meet, (Beginnings of an unofficial bartering system) same with Farmer's Market, but also you get to support the local farmer's who will be VIP if the bad times ever come, they will provide a community with food and sustenance if protected and cultivated, while also learning about an unofficial bartering system. (I'll pull the weeds in this field if you give me six chicken eggs, and one chicken for my family today). A Gardening Club gets you more "farmers" that are self-sufficient, and if given the land, could actually learn to feed an entire community. I imagine the local city or county "park" could be converted to farm land when everyone is starving. No need for parks when people are starving. Then of course, once you have food, you've got markets and bartering systems opening up as well. It really is a cycle.
You might just find out who the doctors, veterinarians, mechanics, War veterans, Commo (working for a phone, radio company), electricians, scientists, inventors, armorer's, manufactures of all types, (firearms, ammo, and other engineering), farmers, cattle wranglers, horse breeders, educators, historians, ect. are.
Just a few thoughts that could be expanded upon with your recent observation of what happens with the A/C or electricity gets turned off especially in the South. Similar things will happen everywhere in the U.S., though I imagine.
Thanks for the observation, its very helpful intel.
