Panic in the year 2020
« on: March 13, 2020, 06:54:46 PM »
My wife and I went food shopping this Friday morning and generally it is quiet at that time of day. NOT today. We went to three different places to get sale items and they were mad houses. At ACME in an up scale neighborhood they were buying TP, bottle water, cookies and crackers but little canned goods. At Food Lion almost all of the meat was gone. The butcher said he usually orders fifty thousand pounds of meat but now he is going to order one thousands of meat. No TP or water to be found. Cat and dog food  shelves almost empty. Only two celery stalks left and only carrots by single picks.
At Walmart you had to be the correct color for TP and water. Low on cat food, all shelves half full.
I never seen so many overfull carts in one store before.
 People are panicking big time.
Now what are these people going to do in six months with a closet full of TP and bottled water?

Here was my grocery store at 8:30pm last night. It was restocked this morning per a family member, but it was like locusts went through. Chatted with a buddy who works there and he was amazed at the panic!

The Local Big Box stores in Western NC get picked over daily, shelves restocked each night. Mom & Pop grocer calm, cool, collective. No crowds and shelves fully stocked.    Thumbs Up for Mom & Pop grocers. Best meats in town too.

With people this panicked I believe they could be easily led and that is very dangerous. There has been fist fights and if the panic keeps up it could escalate into a more deadly situation.
POTUS and VP Pence are doing a great job of keeping the American people informed but every TV station has news that panics people. We don't need to know how many people died in Italy or China or how many cases of the Wuhan Virus is in any part of the world. This just scares people especially my wife.
 I hope this ends soon!

On the bright side maybe the stores will take note of what crap will not sell, even during a SHTF situation, and start stocking usable stuff all the time.

Another bright side is a quick bump in the economy and these small mom and pop shops will see more revenue than they've seen is YEARS.

Does anyone have reports on gun/ammo sales or panic buying?

Nothing has changed in my life, I'm still waiting for warmer weather so I can go fishing. I might plan an overnight camping trip just to get out of the house...

We have some gun and ammo advertisers over at American Partisan. Well the reports we are receiving Palmetto Arms is close to being out of some models. Ammo companies are not running out of goods but are close on some weights of bullets in certain calibers.

Hope that helps Grizz.

Just a warning from old JohnyMac. If you are planning on ordering ANY items on line do so in the next 24-hours. I can see a national self quarantine coming our way which means that shipments will stop.

This national quarantine also means banks. I know of many banks in the tri-state area of NYC that only drive up was open today and going forward. You want a couple grand out of your account, 1) will they have the money when you ask and 2) will they pass that kind of cash through the drive through vacuum loop.

Once the cash machines run out of cash, there will be nobody to restock them. Just food for thought.

Here is a short article on this I wrote over at AP. .

Stay Frosty folks.
