If your not sure if you want to join get some experience in fire ems police. In that order, It will help you get into the mindset and give you valuable skills. Plus your still helping your country.

If it's what you truly want then go for it. But if you're just in it for the cash then I think you're an Idiot.
-
Join for the right reasons and proceed accordingly.

At age 18 I was living out of a backpack and working odd jobs to feed myself. I joined the military because I felt the call of duty, I was hungry, and I didn't have a family that would support me through college. (boo-hoo) LOL
Little did I know the lessons I learned about inner drive/ambition/determination would serve me well throughout life. Little did anyone know I was not the failure I demonstrated in High School, I just needed to grow up in the right atmosphere.
The military is certainly not for everyone, it is not a passive process that develops meaningful character.
If you do join, remember ONE thing, you will only get out of it what you put into it, so put every fiber of your being into it.
Regards,
Walker
That sounds a lot like me Walker. I used to hitch-hike all over. Slept in a barn one summer helping a farmer bale hay and stuff, kept me in tomato sandwiches. Took a bath in the creek. Anyway, a few years later joined the Navy. I've learned a lot since then. At the time I hated the service. I felt like I was missing out on something better. It wasn't till years later that I became glad that I was in. I don't know how fired up I would be going in under this Commander in Chief though. He's an idiot!

Wonder if Walker received an honorable discharge. That's rarer than you would think these days. I have one...

Blows me away every time i read one of these threads on THIS forum... as if you havent read a single thing anyones typed.. guaranteed employment is how they suck in a lot of guys. if i was you and you were that hard up find an underground billionare that pays people a million bucks to play russian roulette. id do that before id join the military. but if you want to serve the country that you now love...dont serve in the military...

I'm not sure I would join right now, with our current government and they way they like to place Team America World Police all over the planet, and start all these interventionist wars.
You'll likely be sent to fight in Iran or Syria, or maybe even Russia or China by then. Not a good time to join to be honest.
Now back in the 30's or 40's I would have PROUDLY joined our military and served my country with honor. Now, there is no honor in what our government is doing, not in Iraq, not in A'stan, and not in any of the other countries we are involved in military or covert military action right now.
I just feel sad for our troops, getting PTSDs because they don't believe in the cause there anymore. Found out an interesting note on PTSDs. Not to mention our government and media tying their hands in the wars as well. Bring our wonderful professional troops home, quite putting them in these awful unsustainable situations.
I love our troops, and I only want the best for them, its our government and media that I have a problem with, and all the policing and interventionist PC wars.
WARS ARE NOT MEANT TO BE PC, period!

I was army and reserves for 8 yrs. If you join for the right reasons you will get allot out of it. I did allot of growing up in the army. But i agree that right now may not be the best time to join. You may very well be ordered to do things that go against your morals and the constitution. My little bro is currently in the reserves, Combat vet. and he filled out a form for SF training. It asked him "if ordered would you disarm American citezens" he answered no. He was not selected for the Q course. And this was after he was recommended by his chain O comand. If you want the training and discipline. If you really want to serve and learn i say go for it and ill gladly count you as a brother. But if your just looking for some cash and bennies. There are better ways to get them. Good luck in whatever you choose bro. Just remember we don't live in the same world our fathers and grandfathers lived in. And yes you get out of it only what you put into it. [url=http://www.freesmileys.or

Now see. That's the kind of crap that just pisses me off. I don't know when they started asking questions like that. They wouldn't even have thought of doing it in the '70's.
It just shows how far we've come from what we used to be.

OK walker if you say so. Do you remember your enslistment Questionair??

What does that have to do with going to war? I was talking about the war, not all the fucked up infringements on liberty that have been going on ever since our country was founded.
1861 was pretty much the last time a majority of our laws were around freedom, of course, you've got to discount slavery, so all other types of freedom besides that.
Of course, they've always liked to tax our liquor, which isn't cool at all IMHO.

Unless you were a woman who wanted to vote, of course. ;D

Eh, the further decline of America. ;D

I'll vote for her to get in the kitchen and make me a sammich.
One step out of the kitchen is one step closer to a black eye.
Also, barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen.
Oh, and what do you tell a women with two black eyes?
LOL sorry, I couldn't help but make fun of my slip up.
-
Wait, they're allowed to vote?
