Things that make you feel fragile...
« on: May 27, 2014, 11:08:39 PM »
My mom visited me here in North Dakota over the Memorial Day weekend.  We went to the Theodore Roosevelt National Park (shitty President by the way).  I had my trusty Sig P220 against potential 2-legged predators, we encountered none.  (I wasn't too worried anyway, we had 2 dogs with us - one of which is 14 years old and guards my beer.  J-Mac saw the pic back in the day years ago.)  After camping overnight and playing the card game Illuminati we entered the park proper and ran into literally over 100 buffalo.  They roam free in these parks in North Dakota.  (They are also delicious).  The animals are so huge and powerful they could have squished me like a bug if they wanted to.  The dogs were barking and going ape shit but the buffalo didn't seem to care.  They kept munching on the grass.  Just saying my .45 ACP was useless if they had charged, I was at the mercy of Nature and God, and I enjoyed it.  I will NEVER submit to the "mercy" of man. :cowboy:

Great story 1000meter! How did your mom get there? Fly or drive?

Many, many years ago. MrsMac and I were anchored in Cat Harbor on the west side of Catalina Island CA. We took the dingy in to have dinner and a few drinks at a restaurant a short walk from the dingy float.

Well we got to the restaurant at 5-ish and left when the bar closed at 2-ish.

As we stumbled down the path from the restaurant to the dingy float we ran across a couple of buffalo asleep in our way. I turned and whispered to MrsMac, "Have you ever tipped a cow before?"

MrsMac being a city gal said, "no." So I said, "watch."

I slowly walked up to the buffalo and at about the shoulder area of the beast a pushed really hard and the buffalo toppled over.

As the buffalo started to snort and cough as he/she tried to gather its wits, we ran down the path to the dingy dock holding hand and laughing the whole way. We jumped into the dingy, fired up the outboard and tore back to Mad Max.

Thinking back, it's amazing what you do when your are young and oh yeah "toasted."  :lmfao:
