Texas Church Shooting, Armed Citizens Respond
« on: December 29, 2019, 07:44:07 PM »
Note first person shot by bad guy is good guy attempting to draw his weapon in response.  Then communion guy.  Then the bad guy gets taken out by armed church attendant.

Note first guy shot was trying to draw. Pay attention to your carry method, position and access. Do lots of practice at home.

Go to a range and do some live fire practice too, including from concealed carry.

Video from church of all 3 getting hit.  If you don't want to watch them getting shot, hunt it up.  Lots of sites are carrying it with the important part blurred.

If you need a second magazine, its time to call in air support.

God created Man, Col. Sam Colt made him equal, John Moses Browning turned equality to perfection, Gaston Glock turned perfection into plastic fantastic junk.

Thanks for posting the video. The first thing I noticed was the first guy stayed out in the open. I've told my wife that if she ever has to shoot, she should get behind something and stay low. :boltAction:

Yeah, imagine if there hadn't been folks there carrying concealed, it would have been a slaughter.  The pastor was rolling around on the floor, not interested in helping his "flock", they should take away his man card.

Trying to make himself be/become/stay the primary target?

I have seen other reports he was the CO of the security team.

I agree that cover is the alpha and Omega of such situations..

But I find it hard to judge from here..
What if the only "cover" available are the other ppl in the church... it certainly seemed like that for some of the responding Deacons.
Also as sheepdogs putting down the bad guy has to be priority for the Deacons.

For this they good need line of sight to the target.
I would also hesitate in this fire geometry taking a knee and then as a result not seeing the threat and being unable to service him..  while he kills in his corner of the church.

It may appear that in situations like these ( full church) rather than fire and movement (which as u all know I am usually a big proponent of)  pulling the pistol then engaging the shooter in the quickest manner available (and as a result accepting the risk of scant attention paid to cover) may be the way to go...

That video was very educating, things I learned:
1) practice draw, aim, shoot
2) know your target - this seems obvious but at one point it looked like one good guy had sights on another good guy as they ran up the middle isle.
3) Stay calm
4) Practice, practice, practice both live fire and dry fire

These are all things I do but not to the extent I should

Near as I could tell the hero had eyes on the bg the entire time and in his sights at least one second which I'm sure seemed like minutes to someone with his experience. His draw was smooth, his focus was on the target and he hit the target at reportedly 50'.

Note first person shot was good guy drawing from cover.  DO THAT TOO!  Snap caps in the basement or a laser target marker and lots of it.

Also do some draw from clothing cover live fire practice.  So you don't shoot yourself in the knee with the first round and miss the bad guy while your falling with the rest.
