Sheeple
« on: January 22, 2012, 12:13:10 AM »
So we got a little snow today and I was shoveling out the truck when this BMW drives down my road and stops in front of me.

The guy rolls down the window and says, "I just bought Elizabeth's house up the hill from here and the road hasn't been plowed- How do I get home?"

I informed the guy that it won't be plowed as he bought a house on a private lane. So then he says, "where am I going to park- I have a 3 year old in the car and I need to get home?"

Now I am thinking, WTF? If you are stupid enough to go out in a piece of shit BMW coupe in 12" of snow don't go and bother me.

Well I saw the 3 year old in the back seat of the car and asked, "Why did you go out?" He explained to me that he went to his shed to get a shovel but the lock was frozen. So he put the kid in the car and drove to Home Depot to buy a shovel.

I rolled my eyes and said, "Next time how about asking a neighbor for a hand. I would have defrosted your lock in about 2 seconds OR I would have loaned you a shovel."

I took pitty on the kid with the stupid hat in the back seat and directed him down our road about 20 yards and told him to dig out a spot for his BMW, park it and walk back to his house.

I followed him down to an empty spot and started digging. He got out of his car to help me and when we were finished he parked his car in the spot we had cleared. Got his daughter out of the car and walked down our road to his lane to his house.

Come on! Hasn't anybody defrosted a lock before? Why would you put your 3 year old daughter in a low riding car to go and buy a shovel when you could have knocked on any door and asked to borrow one. What was he thinking????

Here was an excellent example of a sheeple- "Oh what should I do???"

I think I may have become a little more bitter during my time away. I don't know.

my gut would have asked the asshole wtf he bought a luxury car for in the first place. nothing but a status symbol. no practical purpose.

BWB what does having an ar or ak have to do with anything? The car does matter if they are driving a bmw or a benz they are probably not too worried about what else is going on in the world, and arent prepping. I know multi millionaires that drive old domestic trucks and have gas saver cars (toyota, honda, nissan) but they are prepping.

Dude just because someone has an ar or ak doesnt make them a prepper, and at best i would guess gun prepper. Not all but most, hell everytime ejr and i go to the range there are tons of guys with ar's not too many ak's. None of them would throw their ak on the ground to transition if they needed to.

i know, but alot of people in my area have been buying lots of food. a guy not far from me has a ass load of can goods in his garage, maybe thousands, i dont know what its for. i went to a local gun shop today and family friend that works there said they have been selling ARs and 223 ammo more than ever and most buyers comment that there worried about the economy.

I know you are a youngster so I will not BS you to hard here. Please reread what you wrote. What does "well hopefully he's a nice guy" have to do with anything?

Why would you take a low riding car out in 12" of snow?
Why can't he defrost a lock?
Why couldn't knock on umpteen houses and ask to borrow a shovel?

Last and most important:
Why would you take a 3 yr old kid out in a snow storm driving a low riding car?

The guy maybe nice but he doesn't have a thimble full of common sense.

I am done now.  :))

Well JM, some folks have lived in the deep south for all of their lives and have NEVER had to defrost a lock....believe it or not!   :o

So, would you please impart some of your superior northern wisdom upon some of us dumb southerners?   I mean, I do have a couple of ideas but, but would love to learn the proper yankee way to accomplish this task.

The part about not knocking on anyones door for help i understand. it takes a really big problem for me to bother a neighbor. maybe something like "excuse me would you be so kind as to lift that jack this cars cutting off my circulation" might happen but anything less ill figure it out on my own. the reason is i dont want those damn sheep thinkin i owe them something if they help me. plus i hate when people knock on my door for shit... its simple, i dont ask you for shit so i dont ever have to help you out either... and i know thats a dick way to live but i like my privacy and dont like beggers..

now if i didnt live in CA and had decent neighbors my view my change..but even still i dont like bothering other people with my problems.

Well, I do seem to recall hearing something about heating the key with a lighter....never actually had the opportunity to try it.  I'm serious, does that really work?  This is my first winter, ever, up north and I need to know these things.

We all have our strengths and weaknesses depending on our life experiences.  For example, how many of y'all (with the knowledge you have now) could back-pack, alone, for a week, in the south Georgia swamps....and be so completely at home there that you don't want to leave?

LMFAO  :)) :)) :))

Man thanks for the laugh Special-K. I hear ya'... OK, in my wife's car and my truck I have a shoe box of emergency supplies. One of the items in the box is a can of deicer. Just spray the deicer into the lock wait a minute and voila! Now I have to admit that I have also used:

> WD-40
> Used a Bic lighter turned up on the lock and once I heated the key then inserted the key into
   the lock.

With that said, years ago I replaced all of my keyed locks (Vehicles excluded) with marine brass combination locks. If it doesn't open I just hit it; once the combination is dialed in.

Now Ken,
I totally understand your position as you live in California. I lived there too for four years and learned quickly you were pretty much on your own except in the boating community.

Here in my little neighborhood in RI. or up at my BOL everybody is always helping everybody. In a way it's a pain but in an other way it is a blessing. On many occasions when I have been away my neighbors have helped my wife.

A "can of de-icer," that actually exists?  I just thought that was a joke y'all pulled on southerner's.

Yupper. It actually exists: http://www.amazon.com/Spray-Icer-oz-Aerosol-AS-242/dp/tags-on-product/B0016GVKCY

If your  "shoe box of emergency supplies"  is in the vehicle, how, exactly, do you get to it if the lock is frozen?  [Doing Columbo (Peter Faulk) face palm.] [img]http://www.arrse.co.uk/at

You use your lock fixer.  The 357 you keep on your hip.   :)
