Proud Uncle
« on: December 07, 2012, 05:10:38 PM »
Well my nephew arrived at the BOL yesterday to attend his first deer hunt.

He got here around 1:30PM; suited up and attended his first deer drive. Well nobody got anything with that drive and the hunting party was breaking up for the day, so I sent him and my brother down a ways to look over a hay field. I went the opposite direction to overlook a power line.

At 4:45PM ET I heard the unmistakable sound of a 30/30 being shot off in the direction of where I sent my brother and his son. About half a minute another shot.

I texted my brother asking if he needed me to fire up the old 8N tractor and come down to the field. He replied with a "yup."

This is a picture from today just before we took her to the processor. Plenty of deer kielbasa, jerky, summer sausage, burger and back straps to go around. Notice the smile on my face?  :))

In this day and age, where 21 year old's would rather be playing video games or hanging at the mall; he was out in the field hoofing it with his old man and young uncle. He done good!   [url=http://www.freesmileys.or

Good story and pic JM! I'm sure you're like me and while I've been fortunate enough over the years to have my share of success deer hunting, seeing a youngster or first time hunter get a deer is much more rewarding. My daughters seem to have trouble believing me, when I tell them , I'm more tickled by them getting any deer, than I would be if I shot a monster buck. I'm glad for ya, and your nephew and brother too! Congrats!

Good stuff JM. I too noticed the good trigger control even with the action open. Looks like you taught him well.

It is a nice looking deer, but yeah, that's the way with a lot of species. The further north you go, the bigger the animal. Canada's deer are bigger yet. But hey, your alligators are bigger than ours. LOL!

Thanks gents for your comments.

It's taken a few slaps up-side the head and a few stiff penalties along the way like: Taking away his BB gun privileges for months when he violated a safe gun rule.  Once he started to act responsibly with the BB gun, my brother and I moved him onto weapons that go bang.

He packs his own Interarms 9M (In a freaken shoulder holster  [img]http://www.arrse.co.uk/at mind you) while at the cabin.

His dad and mom did a good job raising him.   [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co
