Title: Opt out of ObamaCare?
Post by: Kentactic on January 11, 2014, 10:43:35 AM
Does this little tidbit hold any water?

42 USC § 18115 – Freedom not to participate in Federal health insurance programs

No individual, company, business, nonprofit entity, or health insurance issuer offering group or individual health insurance coverage shall be required to participate in any Federal health insurance program created under this Act (or any amendments made by this Act), or in any Federal health insurance program expanded by this Act (or any such amendments), and there shall be no penalty or fine imposed upon any such issuer for choosing not to participate in such programs.

It does read as any individuals OFFERING health insurance coverage are not required....

You know SouthernPrepper1 did a vid on something like this like back in October or November. If you can find it on his YouTube channel you might find what you are looking for.

My understanding is if you are working for a company or organization that offers health care and you accept it, you do not need to participate in the ACA.

If you are just an individual who's company or organization does not offer health care YOU Must participate in the ACA or pay a fine (penalty). The first year the penalty is $95- or 1% of your adjusted income which ever is greater.

In 2016 the penalty will go to $695- or 2.5% of your adjusted income, which ever is greater.

I read somewhere so I may be off a few bucks but by 2020 the penalty will be around $2,000- or 2.5% of your adjusted income, which ever is greater.

I suspect that many young folks will opt to pay the penalty, at least in the beginning.

As I have written ad nauseam, MrsMac and I are opting out of the ACA. I have made arrangements with our primary physician to pay cash ($50- per visit) and with MrsMac's internist ($75- per visit) to do likewise. Monthly, we will put money into a high yield money market account to cover catastrophic medical events and pay for medicines needed.

Keep in mind that doctors, hospitals and many pharmacies will give up to a 75% discounts if you pay cash.

Many pharmaceutical companies will give people discount coupons if you meet certain obligations. Most obligations revolve around age and family yearly income. You can also buy many medications via mail from Canada.

I hope that helps Ken....

Sure does JM. I found that section cited on some news page saying Americans are dumb because they can just opt out if they ask. After reading it twice It seemed that was not the case. Just wanted to run it by you guys.

Ken, I think you're thinking about "YankeePrepper" who comes off as the mentally unstable asshole.  SouthernPrepper1 has been the ideal prepping poster child since day one.

Ah yes you are correct. Shows how well I follow peppers on YT. Thanks for clearing SoutherPrepper1's name. He is a weirdo aswell though lol. Most YT preppers lose their mind eventually. Wranglerstar (formerly WranglerBarn) lost his mind when I taught him chainsaw safety. He got so upset he switched his name a couple days later.

The pepper vibe on YT is "I'm the elite in prepping and ill be laughing when you all starve to death". Its no surprise people who aren't very good at socializing are drawn to a lifestyle where they can be king in the middle of nowhere all alone.

This made me LOL, but it does seem to the route things are going on YT. About the only one I can stand and actually learn something from is MainePrepper.

Probably the only that hasn't lost his mind and I like his vids and his ideas about prepping WROL/SHTF so on and so forth.

SouthernPrepper1 has been the ideal prepping poster child since day one.

SouthernPrepper1 is one of the "expert preppers" for Doomsday Preppers, and I consider him an accomplice in what that show had done depicting us as a bunch of wackos, and also in the legal problems many of the show participants had got into.

He has some nice videos though.
