Cold Weather - Robins
« on: March 03, 2014, 12:22:19 AM »
Just an fyi, weather has been cold in Iowa and 2 weeks ago a big influx of robins showed up. Very poor timing on their part. Well, today I had 5 frozen birds in the yard. I have not seen any others flying around.

Fire up the grill !! Those big robin breasts eat like a dove/quail breast. We used to eat them at my grandparents along with the squirrels, rabbits and young groundhogs. My dad and uncle will tell you about Robins being a "mainstay" and going at night to cedar thickets to harvest them with their dad back in the 30-40's when things were really scarce out here in the country.

Tastes like chicken... ::)

Great idea brat!  :thumbsUp:

No DC, I have not seen this kind of thing before - No Robins in RI or PA yet. BUT I have seen a bunch of doves of late in NE PA. They are defiantly early there.  ??? By at least a month.

I saw robins yesterday in SW PA. We only got a dusting from today's storm, so hopefully no robin popsicles!

Saw my first Robin of the season yesterday in RI. There were 4-5 beating up on a Cardinal just outside my house.

There is also a female mallard duck living in the little run-off creek in front of my house. She is very friendly and keeps following me around  :what: My neighbor told me she showed up about 2 weeks ago and will not leave. Maybe that has something to do with his 8 year old son feeding it cat chow.  :facepalm:

This is the time of year we usually see dolphins and harbor seals on the water side of our house. None yet however I am keeping my eyes open.  ;D
