Ladydoc and I joined the Port Malabar Gun Club over the weekend. Pretty interesting place. 14 ranges. I'm itching to use the 600 yrd. rifle sighting range to fine tune the red dot on my AK. lol
.
More seriously, we had the opportunity to watch a Cowboy Shooting match while we were there. Pearl and ivory handled single actions, double barrel shotguns, and lever actions. Pretty amazing. I had no idea a lever action could be fired that fast and still be used accurately.
Apparently they have a belt fed machine gun competition as well. I guess they only hold it once or twice a year due to the cost of ammo. 600 rounds a minute can get pretty expensive. But thats something I'd like to see.

Nice one sledge.
There is a club near me with a 1000+ yard range, but the yearly price is a bit steep for me.

The price for this one isn't too bad except for the initial joining fees. $362 to join. $150 a year afterwards for dues. If you own your own land I don't think it would make sense to join a club except for competition or meeting other pro gun folks. Our problem is that both of our blocks of land are out in NE Arkansas.
Although we're planning a trip out there in June. It's in Hardy, Arkansas where Discovery filmed that Clash in the Ozarks show. That Crowbar Russel guy is one of my neighbors. The guy he's was in the family feud with, Kerry Wane Evans, is going to be sentenced for being in illegal possession of a machine gun on June 20th. I've got interesting neighbors out there.

I am stoked that you and the LD joined the club. You may meet some folks that have similar interests, e.g. prepping.
I belonged to a local Rod & Gun club in RI for 14 years until this year. As you stated Sledge, if you have a good chunk of property it doesn't pay to belong unless you are looking for the comradely.
There is one up near the cabin I would like to join because they have quite a trap set-up - Two actually. They also have a fancy outdoor handgun range which is perfect for training students at. The big plus is it costs $35- to join and only $25- a year for dues.

We're members of our local Izaak Walton League, which has a range. It's something like $120/year for Mr. WPW & me. We have enough room on our land that we could safely shoot, assuming we did a little work to set up a berm, etc., and a lot of our neighbors shoot on their land. However, I feel much safer going to a range that has all the precautions necessary, various ranges for various weapons, etc. along with access to instructors (on a pay-for basis, but still easily accessible).
