My vehicle is hot natured so I just had to pull over and let it cool for 30 minutes even though the coolant was topped off a few days ago.
Living in Georgia most of my life I'm used to triple digits in the summer.
I'm in S.W. Ohio right now and I've got 102.5' in the shade on my porch & 100' according to the sensor at the airport across town. WTF....This is highly unusual for this part of the country.

honestly bro, I'm not trying to 1-up you or anything, but what's the humidity level?
not long ago, I met GAP for the first time when he came to the New Orleans area. dude was complaining like a bitch all day :P because of the humidity. and he's from GA! we haven't reached any triple digits yet, but when it's in the 90's, coupled with 90+% humidity, yea... fuck summer.
summer is my favorite season!..... said no one from Louisiana...

Hotter than the devils breath here all across Idaho (ofcourse I don't mind the heat here, Idaho gets nasty winters so I really love summer)
-
101 degrees with 25% humidity here.
-
The county extension agent told me we are in the third year of a five year drought/heat cycle. To tell ya how bad it is last week I cut three acres of hay and got a whopping 25 square bales. Normally from that section it would have been a closer to a hundred. We've got burn bans galore and even the pond is down a foot plus.
And it ain't even August yet.
-
85% with 70% humidity here in RI as I type. I put the airconditioner in the B-room window this weekend so we will sleep well this evening. :))
-
Its around 100 here.

Boonville, Indiana. Got 106 degrees farenheit here today. Gonna get 106 on fri and sat. 104 sun. 101 mon. Damn, I thought I was out of Iraq over 20 years ago!!! :'(

Last year we sold most of what we cut down to Texas, they needed it bad. We had shitty cuttings last year and we've had one shitty cutting so far this year.
Anyone who is considering cattle farming should stop, our farm is barely more than a tax write-off anymore.
Not to mention all the crap my county is doing to fuck over us farmers.

RS I hear ya'.
Up at the BOL there was a farmer selling his meat cattle for $1,000- a head and $200- to butcher, cut and wrap. If I had electricity at the BOL I would have bought one.
Up at the BOL it has been so wet many farmers lost their hay to it.
It seems to be feast or fammin.

Tyson bought out or shut down via regulation all the independent chicken houses around here years ago, now that they are in the beef business it's only a matter of time before they regulate cattle farmers out of business too. We can't fertilize our fields with chicken litter anymore (not that there's any fucking chickens left) we cant store more than 50 gallons of diesel (even if it's off-road) without a damn HAZMAT license (which costs money to get), im not going to get started. I hate this County.
-
Hey RS, you ever tried just doing it anyway? Most counties in 'Merica don't have anywhere near enough people to enforce their own bullshit regulations.
You could be the one who sets the trend [url=http://www.freesmileys.or

Good post, RS.

So far I've been pretty lucky playing my hand at cattle. I'm not looking to get anymore and they seem to be doing ok moving around the different sections of pasture on their own - I just hope the ponds hold up until fall. I did make a good little profit this spring but I'm not holding my breath for fall. Chicken house wise we've still got a lot in this area - but Tyson did try that shit down here and the County Sheriff got mixed up in it and they gave up after he threatened to arrest some inspectors for trespassing.
The diesel problem? Same kind shit down here. We got around that by spreading the tanks out onto different tracts of land. Seems if you have an acre here and an acre there that are deeded separately then they can't touch you for it. Even the neighbors are letting some of the larger farmers put tanks on their land.
Here's one for ya - one of my neighbors was going through the process to get an irrigation well dug. It got through everyone else and then the EPA stopped it. He called and they asked him how he had irrigated for the previous two years - short answer he hadn't because there was no water available in that section. When they told him they couldn't approve his well permit because of that he asked how he was supposed to irrigate and they came back with some shit about using a well or hiring a water truck. Needless to say he was pretty pissed about all of it and we pretty much just said screw it and put in a well. .gov be damned.
Our Sheriff is pretty good at responding to a complaint about fed or state idiots fiddling with folks in his county. At this point people around here care little to none about regulations and knobdick bureaucrats.
-
i dont know any farmers out here who would ever look for permits to do shit
they just do it
so far no one has fucked with em either
i think its more of a when you ask for permission they get nosey and start fucking with you, if you just do shit on our own they don't care/know
-
as far as burn-bans go, it really depends on how close to others you are. My in-laws live in a county with a "temporary" (yea right) burn-ban and they've had the fire dept. come out twice. they didn't get in any trouble but nervous neighbors saw the smoke and called in a wildfire. but if you're further off the beaten path then I don't see why you'd have a problem.
-
Yeah, records here have been smashed here a lot lately. Usually it gets hot in the summer here but not this hot.
-
Looks like 106 for a week straight, which certainly isn't the worst in America, but it still hot to me, and the humidity seems high as well.
-
My buddy up in Ft Wayne just got hit with a freak storm, won't have power for days and it's a gazillion degrees everywhere. He'll be okay because he preps. Plenty of food and water, but he will be uncomfortable for a while. Mebbeh now he will consider the one thing he doesn't have - a generator.
-
I'm typically out of doors 8-14 hours a day so I am constantly battling to stay hydrated and cool.
I lost the fight last night and spent it laying on the bathroom floor wrapped in wet towels with a fan blowing on me. It was like my Birthday, Christmas and May Day all rolled into one at 4:ooam when I was finally able to keep down water.
-
Now that sound fun TG.
Fuck dude, glad you're better
-
You had a heat spell, and probably almost a heat stroke, TG.
-
It was heat stroke for sure, somewhere in the day I realized that I wasn't sweatting anymore and I was getting confused really easily.
I should have got on it right then but I am stupid.

Sorry to hear about your heat stroke TG. I am glade you knew what to do and are on the mend.
My wife and I are lucky to live on the water so temps at my house are 10-15 degrees cooler than a couple of miles inland. The temps inland are in the 90's which isn't bad compared to what some of you folks are reporting.
If you have any elderly folks living near you, PLEASE stop by their house and or Apt. and check in on them.
Stay (try) cool folks.

I like that John, it shows character.
We would do well to live by the example set by John.

we're FINALLY getting some relief from this brutal heat. yesterday afternoon was the beginning of a week of rain! woohoo! and even when it's not raining it's heavily overcast so the temps are in the low 80s. can't even begin to explain how glorious of a feeling I get when I see a gloomy gray sky around here. :))
-
LOL. I know what you're saying. Enjoy.
-
106' in the shade on my porch today.
My local (cincinnati) weather said it topped at 103' today....highest so far this summer.
-
We spent the day up in Santa Fe where it was in the low 70s with drizzle. It was sooo nice!
