Harley-Davidson Laying Off
« on: May 15, 2018, 06:20:20 AM »
Harley Davidson is laying off 100's of employees and moving some of their manufacturing overseas: http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2018/05/14/report-harley-davidson-laying-off-hundreds-of-american-workers-sending-jobs-to-thailand/  I'm guessing that H-D will be out of business within the next 5-10 years.  H-D was known as an American motorcycle manufacturer, and that's what set it apart from so many of the asian bikes.  Personally, I'd never own one, I find them to be too loud and too slow.  Anyways, they'll be losing their core customers by moving so many operations overseas.  Of course their core customer base is greying and dying off.  I guess their executives don't believe in MAGA.

:) i had one in college.  i had a pair of boots with the pull missing on one side.  i kept a long shaft flat tip screw driver in it.  i had to adjust the timing so it would start when i kick started it.

At least they improved their quality before going under.

Yeah I read this too. It is a bummer.

Yet on the other hand, American Made HD's will be worth more than Asian built ones in the used market.

I use was a consultant for Cycle Gear based out of Benicia, CA. for 22 months. If you are not familiar with CC, they sold post purchase motor cycle goods.

Motor cycles are a way of life to many folks however not me. Even being around the products and enthusiasm I could never pull the trigger and buy one. Although I was close to buying a Buell before I left the company.

I'm scared to death of bikes (motorcycles). I can't get out of the habit of leaning against the turn on a bike.
In principle, no less than in practice, socialism is the ideology of thieves and tyrants.

I've got three motorcycles, and they are all considered dual sport bikes, made to be used on or off road.  My newest bike is up for sale, at the insistence of my wife and my Dad, since I had an accident with it last Fall.  One of my bikes has a sidecar, and it's a Russian made Ural.  I guess in the end both the regular motorcycles will be sold, and I'll keep the Ural, since the Ural is the most fun to drive and the safest.  It's two wheel drive, so it can be driven in snow, mud, etc.  It also has a machine gun mount.  I just have to convince my four legged friend to ride with me.  Not much leaning in turns with the Ural, though you do need to shift weight.  I laugh like hell when I drive the Ural, because it is fun to drive, plus I always think of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade scene as I motor around: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIRxsCHViPk
