Alright I'll throw some wild assed guesses and pure speculation out.
Mr smuggler is in the interrogation room and knows for a fact the cops have him with no way out, they may not have even charged him or found the contraband yet (questioning would help explain the piss poor search) but he knows the charge and penalty and inevitable offer. It's decision time, play snitch and suffer the consequences from the organization he works for (he may have been observed being brought in and knows it) Do time before the organization has him killed in prison (knows too much) or take himself out possibly sparing  family or loved ones.

Yep, he knows his life is over, and if the cartel ever gets hold of him they will probably torture, mutilate his body before he is ever actually killed, so yeah, he took the easy way out, probably spared his family as well.

Remember the video that was posted on here of the two drug smuggler guys getting beheaded, one chain saw and the other knife?  That is was befalls anyone who gets caught.  This guy was caught and probably made the smart decision. 

Don't get caught, and if you do, make sure they have to kill you is their motto.

The plain clothes were probably detective that may have been handed the guy by someone else.  "Shook" refers to like in the cartoons, shake them and see what falls out of their pockets or in simple terms, no one properly frisked him.

Yep, the cartels would post his bail if here was one and then bring him back for a nice little beheading. The cartels have let these guys know getting caught means death. Either die by cop trying to get away or die by my chainsaw. Makes them run a little bit harder and longer. The ONLY way to survive is to get the drugs accross.
