Coin Shortage and the CONONA Virus?????

The other day, I went into the Huddle House to get the wife a Western Omelet to go and they had a sign concerning the Coin Shortage. Yep, the guy who took my order and took my money had drunk the Kool Ade. I mentioned to him that the only reason there was a coin shortage was because the Federal Reserve holds all coins they receive from banks and aren't returning them back into circulation. The Nimrod said Yep, its because the coins carry germs and the Federal Reserve is trying to protect us. Then I said, Uhhhhh.... don't you and the Federal Reserve know that Silver, Copper, Nickel, and Zinc kills germs? It had no effect on his ignorant position. Yep, it was too late, the Kool Ade had him.

 Sounds like a change [no pun intended] of currency is coming. But why would the government hold these coins, for what reason?

several military bases i've been stationed at and several FOBs i've been at as a contractor - at the PX/BX they often didn't use change - not worth much, hard to ship etc.  a penny, for instance, isn't worth using any more except as a tax token.  if hyper inflation or even run of the mill stagflation hits - coins will be a relic.

Me, me, me.... Ask me. I know. The government wants to make physical money as inconvenient as possible in an attempt to move you into digital currency. If there are no coins, because the government is withholding them from circulation, then you will whip out that Credit card, Debit card, Checkbook, or swipe that Cell Phone under that scanner. I've got lots of coins and I'm not going to play their game.
