Intermittent DNS problem with domain
« on: June 06, 2018, 09:00:15 AM »
Hi,

We replaced our old router (Linksys BEFSR11) with a new Netgear (RP614v.4). We're on a domain. The new router was set up just like the old one. The router is set to get DNS automatically (from the ISP - Comcast). The domain controller computer (running Windows 2000 Server) is set to get DNS from itself - that is, the "Use the following DNS server addresses" is set to its own IP address. I don't understand how this works, but I didn't set up the domain and don't know much about it.All of the computers on the network are set to get DNS from the domain controller computer.Since changing routers, we get intermittent DNS failures. Some web sites won't appear sometimes, but will later. It's seemingly random. Restarting the router usually fixes the problem temporarily, but it always comes back.

Please help.

I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.

Welcome!
fire wall settings, anti-malware software, port throttling turned on?
have you checked your LMHost table?

Probably we are replying to a bot, I don't understand why someone would do a first post in this forum about issues with the DNS service...
I have no idea, return the new router and get one that works, you shouldn't configure anything to get DNS working.

Thx APX

On another note good friend...How is the economy in Argentina? I read recently that inflation was rearing its ugly head again.

Inflation is going up, but not as much as we had a few years ago, it seems its not an easy problem to fix and the government made the error of waiting too much to start really adjusting the numbers, now they are politically weak and with a shitty economic situation.

But... we have been worse
