Last night around 10pm, an "emergency alert...shelter in place...lock down" was issued via Reverse 911 to every phone in an area about 15 miles north of me due to a manhunt for an active shooter (middle eastern*) involving a deputy and others.
http://www.wcpo.com/news/local-news/warren-county/deerfield-township/fd-active-shooter-outside-landen-kroger-in-deerfield-townshipI had work scheduled in that area today.
My gripe is that after the shooter was captured just before 5am,
the authorities did NOT issue an "all clear" via Reverse 911 to my co-workers who live in the affected area and had received the initial alert. The initial alert claimed there would be an "all clear" sent when the situation was resolved.
Chalk up another rather inconvenient shortcoming of this intrusive system.
*EDIT: Later info suggests that the shooter is most likely NOT a suicidal "jihadi." The situation looks like a domestic incident gone bad.
