Back in the day, China's ownership of so much American debt meant we were bound together - something that hurt one would hurt the other if balances were shifted too rapidly. IOWS, they were stuck with notes that were bombs if cashed in all at once or even too quickly. Apparently this "Mexican-Standoff" is drawing to a close without fanfare or notice - 'till now. Now... when it is too late to really do much about it. The CCP has successfully (or almost has) freed itself of our debt, leaving them with freedom of action we no longer monopolize as global currency shifts accelerate.. Even if that "freedom" is relative with GDP-to-debt ratios ugly for both.
Pacific control of all travel and shipping will be in their grasp soon on present trajectory. Taking Taiwan might or might not be on their list of things to do first - nobody will profit if chip manufacture is seriously disrupted there.
In any case, two things: 1) CCP plays the long game and 2) our leaders are busy selling America down the river as fast as their banks accounts can be filled.
