A pic From The Past
« on: July 29, 2022, 10:05:24 AM »
One of the things I use to do to earn extra money in my youth, was to deliver boats from X to Y. Mostly along the west coast and on location from afar.

Last night one of my former crew members sent me a pic of me doing a noon sighting somewhere between Hawaii and Santa Cruz, CA. from 1993. Along with this pic, she sent along other pic's that brought back fond memories of that delivery. Have fun with the pic...

For you folks that care, the boat was called Promotion and it hailed from Santa Cruz, CA. It was a Santa Cruz-40. Promotion was a race sailboat and I was skippering it home after the West Marine Pacific Cup sailboat race from San Francisco, CA. to Oahu, HI. That little 40-foot sailboat actually won the race.

Very cool.  Knowing how to use a sextant is an important skill, especially when GPS isn't available.  I hope our navy is still teaching those skills.

What, a compass and map ain't enough?

If you need a second magazine, its time to call in air support.

God created Man, Col. Sam Colt made him equal, John Moses Browning turned equality to perfection, Gaston Glock turned perfection into plastic fantastic junk.

Bwahahaha..... My old boss had a 40 foot sailboat and I went out on the Chesapeake bay with him a couple of times. There is no way I would have sailed on that thing outside the Bay. :hiding: Of course you won the race. You were the craziest one out there. I have to admit that I really liked sailing as long as there was a backup engine for docking or when there was no wind, I would have seriously considered buying one. My boss' first sailboat was a 22 footer but it wasn't nearly as much fun as the 40 footer.

Non-infrastructure navigation is vital.  GPS is fine, but GPS is politically controlled, but the sun, moon and stars are God's signposts.  Goos on ya, JohnyMac.

Prepper or Survivalist ?

A Prepper keeps survival rations for his pets.

A Survivalist  keeps pets as survival rations.
