Title: Adopting a Dutch Shepherd

Looks like MrsMac and I are adopting a Dutch Shepherd from the North American Dutch Shepherd Association.

Dorthy is 1 1/2 years old, has no heart worm, is micro chipped, does not chase cats (Important in my household), likes kids (I don't LOL) and is spayed. The only think I know is that the foster parent told me that she will need a little discipline in the beginning. 

I have never owned a high octane dog before so I am seeking some advise and maybe direct me to a book or two.

First, I need to figure out collars, leashes, crates, beds and toys. Any suggestions?

You'll need to give him place to run and play and spend some time with it.
I owned a male german shepherd and it was awesome, then my family got a female and it was a a pain in the ass, no way to get it calm.

I can't give you much advice as my  tactical poodle is the absolute opposite of the dog you got LOL

Teach her to eat smaller dogs (when necessary) in 2 bites.  Should my yorkie be a combatant with another dog, and that one swallows him in one bite, he will chew his way out the big dog's ass dragging guts behind him.  :fuckYeah:

My mom and dad have a Yorkie. Pretty dang smart dogs!

That Dog Whisperer dude is right on the money, you'll need to DOMINATE that dog right out of the gate.. Mrs.K will have an never ending battle for dominance with her as she will continually challenge her for the alpha female role.

But if you and K do remain alpha and give the dog a job she will be a faithful and loyal companion one worthy of poorly written poetry carved as runes into the rock..

Now if you leave her unemployed and continually questioning her role in the house she will be a constant source of frustration.

I hear ya' TG. We are coming to the end of our prepping list and a sudo guard dog was on the to buy/ to do list.

I have done a bit of reading on the Dutchie and they were originally used as a shepherd (Go figure). My neighbors have sheep, cattle and goats and I was thinking of reintroducing her (If we adopt her) to that job.
