A short conversation with a liberal

I recently had a conversation with a girl in a dating site. She asked me about my gun pictures. This is how the conversation went. This I'd the screen shots off my phone of our conversation.  I overlapped the pictures to help with the reading.

Well I wouldn't feel any ill will towards her for not believing what you do. The whole gun debate thing is really just two differen ways to solve the same problem. And at the heart of both methods is the respect for human life which is admirable.

I loved that you showed her a great deal of level headed respect and kindness unlike most youtube coment debates. Even if you really were just trying to get in to her pants

Hey Ken, I saw you mention you talked this in a dating site, my suggestion would be to avoid politics, religion and gun related topics, that would help you catch the prey.

Then you can show her the right path slowly with time and little by little, you wont be able to reprogram someone in an internet debate, and I dunno you'll find much gun loving girls in Cali.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for sharing the exchange though. I have had similar conversations (NOT WITH GIRLS ON A DATING SITES) not with liberals but with just uninformed people. My mother and father were two in fact.

Some people just have their mind made up and there is nothing that will change their minds.

Kentactic, unfortunately the only thing that will change her mind, if she ever changes it and she doesn't have to, is life experience. I have found that debates really only help me shape my own views, and very, very rarely ever have me change my views.

I agree that shooting a gun makes a huge difference in how you view them. I took an NRA safety course because I didn't like having guns in the house without knowing how to make sure they were safe. We had the opportunity to shoot a whole bunch of different calibers at the end of the course. Several months later I now own my own gun and just shot it for the first time about two weeks ago.

APX, I actually strongly feel that it's important to know what people feel on divisive issues like this before getting into relationships. It's very unhealthy to go into a relationship expecting the other person will change. They will think that you accept them as they are and be hurt when you constantly try and get them to change , and you will resent them for not changing when they stay who they were when you first got in the relationship. There are things you can compromise on, but changing their viewpoint entirely is not something on which you should be able to rely for a relationship.

It just depends on the goals you have, I rather get the girl and see where it goes.
If it doesn't works, fine, I had a good time.

85% of a message is given via body language and tone of voice, just 15% are the words. You'll never get to know someone over the internet, you need to meet in real life ASAP, so why spend hours discussing topics that won't create any kind of good feeling in the girl?

Showing pictures of guns will just make you fit in the wacko category most people have and you wont be able to have the opportunity to show you are a good person and not what the media tells them.

Avoid shitty topics, talk about good stuff, emotions, travel, adventure and all that kind of stuff that will generate an effect on the girl and arrange to get a drink ASAP.

In all honesty I use the site mostly as another outlet to have random conversations.

I am very open about guns. I will gladly talk guns when others bring it up. There actually are quite a few ladies that have pictures of them shooting "that one time".

I found this particular conversation interesting in that she openly admitted that she hasn't done any reasearch and really has no facts gathered but has a strong opinion about it. Its madness... this is what were up against. Mindless fools with strong ignorant opinions.

I thought you  handled it well Ken. I can see the point made by others, about getting to know somebody, then sliding into the issues. But, the person has to give you something to work with. They have to show, that while they don't understand something, they are willing to learn. It was obvious that this girl was not open to educating herself any further on this matter. I mean the girl said she never talked to anybody that was into guns? What world does she live in? Sounds to me, like you would have had way too much work cut out for you. And good job on keeping it civil Ken.

Ya I actually never bring up the hot topics like guns willingly. If they ask ill gladly talk about it. I have also been working on my civil keeping ability. I know words are sometimes hard to interpret the intent of the writer so I use things like "lol" and will offer up flaws in me to show I'm not swinging for the fence.

 I guess having pictures with guns helps these types of woman show their true colors or ignore me all together, which both are good. She replied right back but after we started talking it notified me that she viewed my profile and instantly she had to ask about the guns. So I suppose the gun pictures are like my liberal woman filter lol.

Hate to be off topic a little bit, it's been hard for me to get a girl because of me being a prepper and a gun owner. She had her opinions and your opinions which are not compatible which makes dating for us who are single difficult because we are different from most.

If you present yourself as "Mr.Prepper" the amount of girls that will give you a chance is reduced, just tell them that you like outdoors, martial arts etc etc.

Don't tag yourself as prepper, that is shooting your own foot, especially with the good fame shows like "Doomsday preppers" give us.

Because your tone was so civil I suspect that she contact you again. Bottom-line, you didn't exhibit in your writing any kind of gun toting, cowboy image that she may have of gun owners.

Listen to APX on this one. As a prepper chick who is newly single and contemplating dating websites, I will be listing my outdoor interests which may include shooting, but will not mention politics, ideology, fear of zombies, etc... and, even though I'm a gun toting, prepared lady with a love of liberty, will not be looking for dudes with lots of gun pics with Gadsden flags fluttering in the background.  It's better to mention interests like camping, hunting, fishing, etc...  If a chick's okay with hunting, she's okay with guns.

When it comes down to it, even preppers don't like "preppers"...

As a fellow Caliboy in SoCal I would suggest that you check out going to a few dirtbike shows or car shows. It seems like alot of . . .well female "bros" are big supporters of the 2nd amendment and love the outdoors. They just get scooped up by these douches with lifted oversized trucks (Im sure they arent overcompensating for anything) and it sounds like more than a few of them are sick of the general males that consist of the "bro" population.

Big Bear is getting snow. Maybe head out and hit the slopes and keep an eye out for girls rockin' dirtbike brands on their clothing. FOX or Alpinestar goggles, etc.

Ya I see your point but I'm not really looking for a "Bro Hoe". They are more often then not whores. They love the desert because its cool to be a desert rat and really they just like getting drunk and having sex with everyone. I grew up around the "Bro" lifestyle.

I TRY not to JM. But im sure there's been times I've done this myself. I think the difference is I wouldn't stand proudly announcing that I have no clue what I'm talking about but that I've got a big fat opinion about it.

I sometimes have an opinion that is weak and Its weak because I haven't learned much about it. I'm swayed this way or that based on surface knowledge but I keep those opinions "pending further research".

I think this girl in my OP may just be a self-described Liberal and just hates guns because she can't stand the people who carry them generally. I feel the same way about apple products lol. But Ipad usage isn't really a big constitutional debate either.
