Shall we start up an Ak vs Ar thread to get things jump started?

Everyone know that the Mini-14 beats both. :trolling:

No way SK, the SKS is the best!

An SKS with a Hi-point C9 = The load-out of champions!

Na, its the mosin nagant with a Saturday night special that kicks ass!

So about two years ago, my stepdad (in a very excited manner) takes me into his bedroom to show me the new firearms he purchased. He shows me a revolver that he bought for my mom (who he already admitted that he doesn't trust with a firearm), and two Hi-Point carbines, in TWO DIFFERENT CALIBERS! I felt like :DrillSgt:, but I kept my cool and just asked him politely why he bought those. He said that if anything ever happens, those will reach out within sight distance, from his house, to either end of the street. He bought the .45ACP version for himself (he had a .45 1911 to match, so okay), and he bought a .40 S&W version for my mom, the woman he had said that he didn't trust with a firearm! At this point, I'm really fighting the :DrillSgt: in my head. Three different calibers in four different firearms for two different people, one of whom isn't capable of safely handling a firearm under stress. I just told him, politely, that if it were me, I probably would have used the several hundred dollars he spent on the carbines and revolver, and purchased an AR-15 since he is an Army vet.
So remember, if you have an AK/AR/Mini-14, at least you made a better decision than a Hi-Point carbine for your SHTF long gun.

:lmfao: to freaken funny Rah!
When I was working for Cycle Gear there was a guy I worked with who asked another coworker who was a retired Marine and me what 45 ACP should he buy. Almost in unison we said, 1911. He was a Colt guy and I was a Kimber guy. The former Marine also raved about the Sig P220.
Well the guy went out and bought a Hi-Point 45 ACP for around $200-. He fired it a few times and turned around and sold it - Bought a Springfield 1911  Obviously he was looking at cost not quality.
His claim was that the Hi-point was hard to control, e.g. not very ergonomic friendly grip. If the 45 was a bit snappy could you imagine the Hi-point in 40 s&w?

LoL Rah, how did you keep your cool??
And how's he gonna find 45APC blammo???

LOL, you'd have to know my stepdad. He was stationed in Vietnam as an MP (he claims Saigon). He claims that he (as an MP, mind you) was out "in the bush" with "his platoon" (he was a sergeant) and that he really got "in the shit." He told my mom that their platoon had gotten so hungry on patrols, he (the only bonafide Georgia redneck hero) had to go by himself into the jungle to kill monkeys for their meals. When I was a teen, I noticed a scar on his neck, right near his vertebral column. Curious, I asked him how he got it. He said (and I'm NOT lying - I swear to God Almighty this paraphrases what he said) that when he was "in the bush," a Viet Cong guy jumped on him from behind (as if they're all really short and acrobatic fellows by default) and stabbed him in the neck with a knife. He then (again, he said this) flipped the guy off, and killed the Viet Cong soldier with the knife that he's just been stabbed with (oh really? and how the fuck did you get it out of your neck!?). Stories like that are common with him. He has stories about his time as the school anti-bully in high school, in Vietnam as an MP, in Germany as an MP (oh, he fucked with a general and got away with it! oh, yeah!), as a street police officer and as an officer specializing in children's cases.
By the way, he has two brothers who also fought in Vietnam. Neither of them speak to him, and both will tell you to your face that he never was stationed in that country, much less went into "the bush."
Seriously, if they made a movie of his life, it would probably resemble a Redneck Matrix trilogy. Except that he lives in the end and everyone else who looks at him wrong dies or is very humiliated.
Every family gathering, when he's about to tell a "story," my wife and I just look at each other and think, :deadHorse:.
-
Oh, but as a bonus for how he's acted and how he treats everyone, pretty much none of his traditional family and friends speak to him. His kids do, sometimes. Probably because I keep coming around periodically, I managed to get him to give me his Kimber 1911 Ultra (I think?) with Crimson Trace laser grips when he dies. So, I'm just waiting.... :dancingGrenade:
I know. I'm going to Hell. :lmfao:

Hoping for someone to die for their Kimber is NOT a sin! My brother constantly inquires whether he is in my will and will he get my Kinber in the will.

A prefer the derringer, m82 combo myself.

I like my S&W .357. It makes a nice boom. Can't wait till it warms up and I can go to the range again (the range is open, but it's too cold to cope for me :) ).
-
Practicing in cold, crappy weather is just as important as practicing when it's nice out. Sayin..... :)
Nothing the crack of a shot from a Finnish Mosin Nagant on a cold, crisp winter day. Those damn rifles are made for shit like this winter. It's an immensely satisfying sound to my ears. Hearing protected, of course. ^-^

Sorry SK for getting a bit off topic here...
I haven't squeezed a trigger since Saturday Dec 7, 2013. My reward was a nice sized deer.
Have done a bit of walking to "try" and keep in shape but heck it's been a cold winter in my parts, 7'F as I type this now at 2210 hrs. I am sure when the alarm goes off at 0300 hrs to rudely signal me to feed the wood stove, it will be close to zero.
The crack of a gunshot sure does travel in these temps, as I am sure you are aware of Crudos living in the frozen tundra we call Wisconsin.
Wellie, I am sure you have posted before, but what S&W wheel gun do you have? MrsMac's is a Ruger SP101 spurless .357 Mag. (http://www.ruger.com/products/sp101/specSheets/5720.html)

Sorry SK for getting a bit off topic here...
No worries. It was meant to be an "anything goes" topic just to stir up some momentum on an otherwise dead day. If anything terribly interesting happens, I can always selectively split it into its own topic.
-
Damnit, Crudos, do you have to make so much sense? Now I feel like I really have to practice in the nasty cold. (Well, as soon as we can get out of the driveway. Never thought it'd be a problem having a long driveway. I suddenly see the appeal of people who built up by the road.)
JM... Umm... I have no idea. I'd have to go look at the manual. It's a revolver, stainless steel, .357 magnum. It's Smith & Wesson. I like it - easy to handle all once I got to go shooting before the cold moved in.

Whats with the Hi Point bashing. It appears that most here know little to nothing about them. Yes they are cheap and ugly but they are also solid and reliable. Interchangeable magazines and they just plain work. Yes I would prefer my AR or either Mini but as far as keeping in the truck gun, I know they will do the job when they are asked to.
Now, enough bashing them unless you have fired at least 500 round through a Hi Point. It need not be any specific one.

No doubt Nemo. I've seen enough to know that HiPoint pistols can be very reliable... though they sometimes need a ramp polishing and the mags may need a feed lip adjustment. But considering their ergonomics, weight, bulk, shitty sights, and less-than-user-friendly field stripping... Is a HiPoint pistol anywhere near the top of your list of sidearms that you would prefer to take into battle? Yeah, I didn't think so.
-
So......... I actually own a hi point .40 I got a good deal on it and I was young. It was a decent handgun, however its going to get cut up and turned into something better. That guy knows what I'm talking about. Now on to the carbines at least in 9mm. The handgun vs. the carbine... The mags are not interchangeable and they are, the handgun mags are too short for the car but the car mags are like extra cap for the handgun. Think glock 17 mags in the compact and sub compact 9mm glocks. The drawbacks single fucking stack mags!! Also they don't really like hollow points at all fail to feed like its going out of style. Drop mag to clear. But the for the price point good weapons. I would put them onpar with a kimber as far a eating whatever you try to feed it :hiding:

I think you guys got the wrong idea from my posts. I'm not bashing Hi-Point firearms. They have a specific purpose, and I have read before that with some adjustments they can be very reliable. If you need an example of how hard they can be to destroy, go to Iraqi Veteran's YT channel. He has a vid or two of them.
My point in earlier posting was that my stepdad wanted a SHTF "rifle," but we all know from reading or experience that 100 yards, max, is the limit for a pistol carbine (accuracy, stopping power). That, plus the fact that he purchased the extras for a person who couldn't use them, in a total of three different calibers, with money he could easily have used to purchase a rifle designed for such a scenario, a rifle he had already been trained to use while in the Army.
No one is bashing the Hi-Point series. They're not the best, I wouldn't want one to depend on with my life, but they serve their purpose. To be honest, if I had the funds and had all my other preps covered, they might be good hand-out guns for any dependable neighbors who ally with you. In an urban area, I could see that being useful. They're not dependable Makarovs, but they are cheap and are available in popular calibers that you likely already stock.

Please explain where you were going with this comment? ;)

Kimbers arent really know for reliability, and for the price... You can have 3 glocks or 15 hi points which are just as reliable as that kimber :trolling:

Actually owning a Kimber that I shoot frequently in 45 and 22 conversion, I'm not able to agree with your reliability comment. Yes, they are pricey. So are HK's and most other upper end firearms. But Glocks and Hi Points are fine for the average shooters in Ga. :trolling: Back at you. lol.

I have never had a malfunction on my Kimber. I feed it 185 gr HP's, 200 gr SWC and of course standard 230 gr ball ammo and have NEVER had an issue.
;) :trolling: away.
