They use regular batteries too, huge plus.

That's the reason I'm giving them a try. I think its a good idea to make sure all your gear uses the same battery.. just sayin'

Yep. AA bat. is a nice feature. Supposedly the high end lights run C123 batteries because they are 3v vs 1.5v but I've never seen the proof in the product performance to justify it. This light has a decent run time and the output is good aswell so who cares.

My FenixLD40 has a 250+ lumen output and a run time of like 10 days on the 15 Lumen setting. It takes (4) AA bat.

My SureFire burns 2 of those 123C batteries in an hour, this light is brighter according to the specs. I wonder if I'm going to have to put silicon tape on the bezel to keep from burning myself with it too??

I can't buy those stinking batteries in my county so I don't actually carry that SureFire unit instead I carry a cheap no name and it works pretty good but I'm really looking forward to upgrading.

I haven't noticed any excessive heat with mine so far. I think it might get some warmth if you left it on high for a while but not anything that could burn or even feel too warm to comfortably touch.

I got my light in the mail this weekend and all I can say is 'Wow!'

This little unit carries well and does the job! I really like how it fits so nicely in my back pocket and how the clip keeps it there.

I will say that its kind of a PIA to get it to switch modes but the ultra bright is the primary function and I really like that. So aside from having to take the time to train myself to use it in its other modes I have no complaints.

Thanks again Ken for the hook up!

I too received my lights on Saturday. They were everything promised! I do agree with TG though, that the switching between modes is a bit of a PIA. However, I like what I received for $20- a piece.

I did have an issue with the "Carton Contents" were listed on the side of the box for everyone to see  :tinfoil: alert!

I sent 5.11 a email complaining about this. I am waiting for a response and once they do respond I will let you know what they wrote.

Thanks Ken!

Glad you guys like them. As far as switching modes it gets easier once you get use to it. At first getting to strobe seemed impossible. Now im able to get there pretty reliably the first run at it.

I believe you must hit the switch again within 1 second to get to the dim setting and again under another 1 second to get to strobe. Its a quick bump bump hold for strobe for example.

My favorite part is how it has momentary on or click on and that the light always reverts back to high power.

That's what I like most about it too Ken, I've owned a lot of lights that stayed in the mode they were left in and that isn't good for a EDC light.

Sorry to hear you missed it brother. Perhaps keep your eye out for the next generation in 5.11 lights. Im guessing they fazed out the ATAC A2 for a new light. Im curious myself.

Update: my light has taken a shit. I pulled it out of my pocket and it was very warm. Now momentary on isn't reliable and even clicking it on gives a slight delay. After letting it cool it acts normal. I don't THINK it was clicked on accidentally but I can't be sure. But it definitely got really warm and acted funny for some reason. I'm not going to lie... I'm bummed.... I really like this light. Now I'm not 100% with it.

Got mine yesterday. Ken, let us know how your light does after you use it more. It does have an alert for overheating on the box.

I didn't see that. Could you quote the warning? Its working fine now. Just acted up when it was warm. I just don't know what made it heat up. That's my main concern.

I'm guessing that it turned on in your pocket and was insulated by your hot hot body (yeah, I watch your videos) and over heated.

From the manual,

3. Do not leave discharged batteries in the ATAC Series Flashlight. This could lead to permanent damage of the flashlight.

4. Its normal for the flashlight's body aluminum body to get very warm during continual use.

Reading over the warranty suggests that since this happened during normal use they will fix or replace it. Give them a call at 1-888-511-4535. Good luck buddy!

If it was clicked on it would explain the heat. But... I was standing up with it in my back pocket tail cap out. I was on my feet for a couple hours. I don't know what would have clicked it on. But even if it did get clicked on, when I pulled it out to use it, it was off and very warm. Nothing in the recent 5-10 mins prior to pulling it out would have turned it back off just in time for me to feel heat and the light off. Ill never really know for sure of course so ill keep an eye on it and move on.

What does "discharged batteries" imply? Dead batteries?
