Surprise, Surprise
« on: May 04, 2022, 10:08:00 PM »
Damn!! I went to the auto repair shop today to pick up my Ford Explorer. It needed a bit of love and care. Front Brakes and Rotors, Cylinder #2 was misfiring, and they replaced the sparkplug, and they couldn't find the slow Parasitic battery drain. Its not a big deal unless I let it sit for more than 2 days without starting it. On the way Home I stopped to top off the gas tank in the car that the wife was driving and the Explorer that I was driving. What????? Gas had jumped up from $3.90 a gallon for Regular to $4.09 for Regular. Even though I paid $480 a month ago for a repair to the Lumina and $611 today for the Explorer repair, I'm a happy man. Bring on the SHTF. I've got 3 perfectly good running and driving vehicles full of gas and ready for whatever happens, some Cash on hand, a zero balance on my credit card, and some Silver if I need it. You might say that I'm pissed off and waiting. :chuky:

May 9th may be the day.

There are a lot of  :tinfoil: folks who think that Russia will do something nasty on May 9th.

Gonna buy a pre 2010 shtf vehicle. Checkin out the Toyotas as my mechanic skills are non existent and this brands reputation will be good for me to learn on.
Currently searching 2nd gen Tacomas and it's either 1st or 2nd gen Tundras and Sequioas.

4wd, crew cab preferred over extended w long bed and searching for bench seats in the front.

What in the world is a 1st or 2nd gen vehicle?

1st/2nd generation of the model car. So a 2nd Tacoma would be lets say 2000-2009 ( not accurate years) and all those Tacomas would have interchangeable parts.

3rd generation cars of the toyotas mentioned are past 2010 production and thus microchipped w a computer that can allow govt to track and even remote shutdown or control vehicle. Also microchipped cars will vastly harder to repair after China invades Taiwan and in shtf in general.

There is a guy on you tube that is a complete TOYOTA freak. I think his name is Scotty Kilmer. He is a huge fan of any Toyota that is prior to 2015. He says that as long as you change the oil and keep all the other fluids at proper levels, you can't hardly wear them out. Now, as for what I have started doing a long time ago. I bought a 1962 VW Squareback that was purchased in Germany one year before they started selling them in the US. That SOB damn near bankrupted me with repairs. Then I bought a Dodge Van from the Store that I worked at and that thing refused to die until one day the fuel pump went out so I sold it for cheap to a friend who was a mechanic and he drove the crap out it for what seemed like forever. Then I bought a new 1973 Plymouth Duster and it was great but I traded it in at 100,000 miles for a new Dodge Aspen and when it reached 100,000 miles, I bought a new Isuzu I Mark. Damn! I couldn't wear that damn car out. Then I bought an Isuzu PUP Truck and I couldn't hardly wear it out either. Then when My Father traded his 1986 Dodge short bed Pickup Truck, I immediately bought it. I still have it but it isn't running. Then I decided to buy CLUNKERS for cheap and drive them until they quit and then replace it with another clunker. I bought an old Dodge Maruader and ran it till it quit. Then I bought some kind of midsize Chevy and drove it until it quit. Then I bought a used Ford Taurus and ran it for years until it quit. Then I bought 2 similar cars. I think the Dodge was a Scamp and the Plymouth was the same car with Plymouth on it. They ran forever and then died. Then I bought a 1998 Chevy Lumina for $800 and I still have it with 218,000 miles on it. I also bought a 2001 Ford Expedition for $4500 that has about 207,000 miles on it and I still have it. Then, while I was having some minor repairs done to the Lumina, the wife and I went out and found a 2012 Acura TL with 127,000 miles on it for $9000 so we bought it. I will never buy another brand new car because the Taxes and insurance are a bitch on new cars.

I just recently purchased a 1988 Isuzu Trooper. Im currently replacing the head gasket, which is not unusual for the 2.6l I4s.  I have already redone the suspension an replaced all 4 brakes (rotor & calipers). I love these because of how easy they are to keep running. They are straight tough to kill.  This is going to be a utility vehicle/ work truck so I removed the back seat and interior then coated with pick-up bed liner. It only got 233k on it so I figure another 100k will be doable.

I agree with the Toyota freak that you mentioned.  I have a 1999 Tacoma Pre Runner that I purchased new off of the lot.  260,000 miles.  It has been my daily driver since the day that I bought it.  Over all, it's the most dependable vehicle that I have ever owned. About once a month someone leaves a note under my windshield wiper asking if I want to sell it.  About six months ago, I was getting gas at Cumberland Farms gas station and a guy in a Ford on the street started honking and waiving at me.  He pulled into the lot and came over, asking me, "Hey, do you want to sell that truck?"  I told him "No Bud, I just want to put gas in it."  I guess he had one years back and regretted that he sold it.  I'm not making that mistake!  Lol!

I've owned about 5 toyota P/U's and never had an issue with any of them, except they were too small and underpowered as my needs changed. I would get another one if the opportunity came my way
