Seeing others chat about H&K VP9 makes me happy. I am not anti anything as long as it works reliable for you.
I love the grip and stock trigger on my VP9. I am looking at getting the VP9SK as an alternative lower profile EDC option but for now the VP9 works great in most cases :)

Got to do some great training this past weekend with my VP9 and AR. Will look at posting a formal review someplace but for now if you have not trained down in Fayetteville, North Carolina (I know this is far for lots of folks) I would highly recommend Recondo Operations Group (ROG) https://recondooperationsgroup.com/

Got some training in this weekend.  I went out to Utah for some fundamental defensive carbine work and to get some time in with the team I am going out with in a couple of weeks. Training was run by Aaron Cowan of Sage Dynamics. We are heading to the Capitol Reef area of Utah for some Recce/Patrol/Small Unit training with Buck Doyle of Follow Through Consulting.

It was a little bit of everything this weekend from nice low 60's on Friday to mid 20's and snow with big wind on Sunday.  It made for some solid work.  We only had 4 of our normal group of 6 that we will be going out with in a couple of weeks mixed in with a solid group of mostly LEO and a couple of other civilians. We were lucky enough to have a SOCOM in town at the same time so got in a nice 4 hr block of medical in that was not initial planned. He is a close friend and did this for our group, not the entire class.

I'll try to do a AAR of both this and the Recce class mid next month....once I get back and get caught up on the work front.

I hope you young guys who train a lot also take training on how to train civilians after SHTF. How to use the very young and the very old.
When it comes to battle don't let our age be used to decide our uselessness but our usefulness. Our desire to be free and live is as great and maybe even greater than most.

I don't think I'd go for a VP45, as I already have a USP 45.  The USP 45 handles very well, and it has minimal recoil for a .45.  The only reason the USP 45 isn't my EDC gun is the weight, and I have a light attached too, which makes it difficult to conceal.  The VP9 is very controllable recoil wise, compared to say a Kel-Tec PF9.

And Jojo, I'm just a civilian who is trying to survive whatever comes my way.   I do train occasionally with my wife and our sons.   If the weather is decent this weekend, maybe we'll celebrate the holiday weekend practicing a bit, but my wife doesn't tolerate cold weather very well.  She's definitely a warm weather shooter.

@jackalope . You, JohnyMac and some of the others are lucky in that your wife and family can see the problems that exist, my wife suffers from "Terminal Normalcy Bias". She doesn't know that I have food, medicine and toiletries stored. You ask how is that, well when we got married we promised each other not to invade the others space. Promises kept.

Great CJS! Looking forward to that AAR.

The weather looked nasty for sure however what a great way to test ALL of your equipment.

A bit off the topic of this Subject Line however, if you find yourself on the older side of 40, don't have a solid team to train with, or know that when the day comes your family will finally understand what you are prepping for - You can always be part of the auxiliary. Check out this article by John Mosby.

Peace!

I made two small raised beds and planted onions, radish, two types of carrots and beets. My garlic is 3" already and my previously planted onions are starting to come up.
My wife loves beets, I don't but I have never tried fresh grown ones before. Time will tell.

You rock JoJo!

I wonder how many folks on this site have their cellars or garage full of prepping supplies, beans, band-aides and bullets but never practice with those goods. Time for a article on this subject I am afraid.

Beets are discussed often here at our homestead.  I HATE beets, it goes back to an unfortunate incident in my childhood.  However, my wife loves them and so do the chickens.  So, we grow a couple of rows of beets in the garden every year.  The beets that my wife doesn't harvest are left for the chickens, and we've found that they make a good bridge food in the Fall before the ground freezes solid.  A bridge food is used between the time the chickens free range and when it's necessary to turn to store bought feeds and grains.  For those that are raising poultry, mangel beets can be grown too specifically for chickens feed.  Mangel beets are harvested, dried and then ground up for a natural chicken feed, and they last a long time when they're dried.

the indoor greens are almost eaten (mesclun mix)
i got a bag of pasture mix seed, a bag of barley to mix with it and am ready to flatten and patch a couple of ragged places in the pasture.  the roto-tiller, bush hog and tractor are lubed for the season.  we already have lambs and are expecting more.

We're still waiting for Spring up here, as we're suppose to get some snow tonight, and temperatures are forecasted to be in the teens at night all next week.  I spent part of the day pruning apple trees.  I also had the opportunity to see how a livestock guard dog operates.  One of the neighbors had visitors who have a pitbull that got loose.  The dog ran around their yard for a bit and then it noticed our poultry and ran for our fenced enclosure.  Just as it approached the fence our Great Pyrenees placed herself between the pitbull and poultry.  She didn't bark or anything, just stood at ready, and apparently she's intimidating enough to make the pitbull hesitate, which allowed the dog's owner to corral her.  I was impressed on how professional the the Great Pyr was.  However, she later lost a few points when she grabbed some broccoli from the chickens, thinking she could get a snack.  She chomped on the broccoli for a bit and finally let the chickens feast on their treat.

You do realize that my statement is 100% accurate.

My wife loves them and just advised me that the other human exit material will turn purple too if you eat too much beets.

Not sure if this falls under prepping.. maybe more resilience or readiness..

But today I did my 5th exercise for the week (Iron Pump optimized to support/improve tactical movements and weapons handling) and right afterwards I went shooting while still exhausted from the work out.

I got a new carbine and went shooting. Damn!!! Brand new rifle and I had a bunch of Failed To Feeds. I came home and did a bit of work on the magazines. I'll know how that worked out when I go shooting again. I tried to take the mechanism apart to polish the ramp. Well, that didn't work for me. I'll do a little research on how to access the feed ramp without looking through the ejection port. :boltAction:

@ Erick, you are truly an inspiration to us all with all of the PT and training you do. Thanks for keeping us in the loop and encouraging our own.

@ Beets, I can take 'em or leave 'em BUT MrsMac HATES beets not unlike you Jackalope. Just the mention of the word "BEETS" gets a strong ugg from her.

@ PK, what kind of a carbine?

Thanx for the kind works John and Kpop.. I hope as many members as possible get to exercising.
I am now firmly in middle age and it took a year but I bounced back from a low point in my physical shape in the past year.

And as you surmised correctly I dont do this to brag... but to exert set an example on the group to do more.
Fitness will be important for SHTF either to enable manual labor or to enable you that extra wind you need to maneuver to close with and destroy those who threaten you and yours.

Hey Gadget, I am looking for a 5 piece military sleeping bag system at a reasonable price. Would you have one in your inventory willing to send state-wide?

+1 on this :)
was eyeing these but had not pulled trigger yet: https://store.glennsarmysurplus.com/mod-iii-bdu-sleep-system-p279.aspx?Thread=True
and these only 4

I been looking at those for a while also.. I have one but a spare is always better right?
