Bought 100rds of 9mm and 50 shells of 00buck to add to a "natural disaster" stockpile. Not really meant to fight off the NWO but a gang of looters during a regional disaster where relief is days or weeks away.

I rototilled another garden today.  Did some winter prep work on one of the tractors.  Did some other chores, so it was another productive day!

Does replacing a 22 year old heat pump count as prepping? I did that today and it was really expensive.

Moved the chicken tractor into place for the winter.  Cleaned out the chicken coop.  Shoveled literally a ton of chicken manure, and spread it over our gardens.  Hopefully I'll be able to rototill it into the garden in the next day few days so it can break down over the winter.  I definitely got my work out today!

It's hot, it's dry and it's getting brutal.
Almost a year into this drought now and it's catching up to us.  Started getting reports of boreholes and well points running dry.

My red wrigglers actually cooked inside their home, none of our outdoor plants made it and a large number of my clients have been forced to shut their doors due to water restrictions and general economic decline.  Steep rise in good prices due to the lack of local supply.

Forced us to take a look at a number of factors.
Done away with the fish and worms and switched over to hydroponics.  I have set up a trial system (about a quarter of what we had) indoors.  Greatly increased our water stockpiles.  All of this to the dismay of MrsNinja because we are running out of space to move in this tiny apartment but at the end of the day, if it comes to it, I'm willing turn the entire spare room into a garden.  I'm not made for heat like this, it's starting to cook my brain, dreaming of a summer job in Alaska.

Been limiting my online time due to data prices being so high in S.A.  U.P. Is one of my online vices that I miss the most.

Generally we're in a winter rainfall region with about 70% of our annual rain in winter which has just ended (although winter was about 2 weeks long this year) but we're still holding out hope.  After the most severe el nino event in my memory in 1998 our seasons essentially reversed during the following 2 years so that's what we're currently praying for.  The weather is incredibly erratic at the moment, apparently our meteorologists are pulling their hair out because nothing is going as they expect.

Went to the range to practice offhand shooting, did poorly. I haven't exercised in a month and it showed. Ordered oxygen absorbers and mylar bags.

I too am glad to hear from ya' thedigininja

Jackalope, I was planning on building a chix coup for next spring. I am looking at all of my options and a moveable coup sounds interesting. Our goal is to only have 3-6 chickens. Maybe you could write about your coup.

JoJo, any firearm practice is better than none.  ;)

MrsMac and I have been very busy with the last of the canning, splitting wood, stacking wood, and basically getting ready for our winter.

Installed tile in our first floor head (Bathroom for all of you Hillary supporters) and it looks good even if I have to say so myself.

Bought a 2 meter linear power amp. Basically turns 5 watts into 85 watts. Going to try my hand at SSB 2 meter broadcasting. It is becoming popular with some underground hams.

@JoJo good for you practicing off hand, its something i've been neglecting.
-
JM the wife and i have had luck with movable coops - tried a couple designs.  the cattlepanel hoop coop would be way to large for under 20 chickens.  a PVC design is light and you can customize the size.
we got started by reading a book by Joel Salatin - i found this a good read Pastured Poultry Profit$ what fascinated me was not the business stuff.  it was the chicken tractor (the movable coop).  Grass fed tastes better IMHO.

https://www.amazon.com/Pastured-Poultry-Profit-Joel-Salatin/dp/0963810901/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1508072821&sr=8-5&keywords=salatin
https://www.backyardchickens.com/threadloom/search (type 'chicken tractor' in the search window.

i know you have probably heard about 'backyard chickens'.  I have found it useful for small flock chicken advice.  On the coop one thing i found was to use 2 2x4's as sled runners (gives you an attachment point for the PVC & feeder & water & pulling ropes & no wheels needed) and it is easier to move.  one or 2 cross 2x4's to make it more stable than the PVC only types.  my favorite current design is PVC with 45 deg elbows made into hoops like a conestoga wagon.  use cattle panel or hardware cloth around the bottom 2' and chicken wire around the rest (i added hardware cloth 'skirts' front and back after a weasel incident) - make a door to get food and water in. - i put the food and water on a platform so it slides with the sled.  A top tarp for shade if needed.  we skip roosts with meat birds - so you can make it lower (easier reach over).  move it to a new patch when they have eaten the grass under their feet - about once a day early on and twice a day later.  Even if you don't have alot of grass, it keeps the soil load of manure down.  :)  i have a freezer full of  tasty roasters.  one other idea - you probably don't want to overload your freezer - just do chickens like your carrots or lettuce - in successive batches.

Well we harvested all of our potatoes and mustard greens.  The mustard greens are being dehydrated to be used in soups and salads this winter.  All of the gardens were rototilled, so at least the gardens are ready for winter.

We practised extreme 4x4 on a nearby mountain trail this weekend.
Have backache to  boot for it (added some remedies meds to the list for BOB and to stock up for Medic bag), drove through some intense ditches and deep water, yes my lady brain also took part, i took the sticks and drove on.

Well besides a busted oil filter and posible new detterent for vehicles chasing you (spill oil on rocks) making it impossible for any vehicle to follow. Was alot to take in for a weekend of learning.

We took inventory of food and made a list of what we need, then i started drying out strawberry seeds to plant in a few weeks.

All in all not a bad weekend.

I got a tetanus shot yesterday, not because I wanted it....  anyways this is a reminder to keep your vaccinations up to date.  Tetanus vaccination is good for 10 years.

At my mom's for the week with MrsMac. Threw up my QRP antenna (reply #9) into a tree about 30' high and configured it into a inverted "V".

Been making contacts as far away as Florida, Texas, Wisconsin, Arkansas on 5 watts. I have heard folks farther like the UK, and the Caribbean but have not been able to get through the "pile-ups" to make the contact.

Examined my new 4 pack of 20L Jerry cans.
On close examination these from Poland
https://deutscheoptik.com/20-liter-jerry-can-set-of-four.html

While better than the cheaper than Dirt ones ,are not the equal of these (the ones I previously stocked) made in Latvia:
http://lexingtoncontainercompanysonlinestore.mybigcommerce.com/jerry-can-20l-green-epa-carb-dot-osha/

I was hoping they would be but they werent.
I will test them to see if they are good enough.
They ARE half price compared to the ones from Lexington ( yet more than the chinese ones from CTD)
