Nice weekend here, going to get the garden cleaned up from the debris of fall and winter. Because the weather is so variable in the early spring here, hard to know when it's okay to get stuff in the ground.

Yup nice Sunday here too. Got to 70 degrees.

Charged the dozer battery and put chains on our Frankenstein tractor.  :tractor:

Fired up the dozer yesterday. Greased the tracts, topped off the oil and "de-greased" the radiator. She is ready for scraping up some topsoil today.

If I can get that accomplished today, I can start to plant my raised beds with beans and other cold weather veggies tomorrow.

Temps in the morning have been between 28 & 36 degrees F and get up to the high 60's by mid afternoon. It is 44 degrees as I type. YAHOO...Spring may really be here  :dancingBanana:  Snow is about 95% gone and the season of mud has begun.

On another note: Turkey season starts on the 25th. There were 20+ in our lower meadow Sunday. Would be nice to put one in the freezer to be deep fried Memorial Day weekend. My brother does the BEST deep fried turkey.  ;)

Slow going here.  Cash is strapped so we're prepping more mentally. Put away a little more water but running out of space. Also getting involved with the community watch, hoping to get to know my neighbors a bit better to see what I have to work with.

Dumped ~9 yards of two year old goat & sheep manure on our garden. Then spread it with a rake followed up with plowing today. I will disc it Thursday or Friday.

Looking forward to planting my seedling's however it is just too early even if the Farmers Almanac says it is OK to do so.

A friend warned me to wait for the first oak leaves to become visible before planting hearty seedlings. Then plant the not so hearty seedling's the second week of June or after the last cold snap which ever comes first. We always get one last visit from winter around Memorial Day weekend.

I have planted lettuce, arugula, Swiss chard, carrots, radishes and peas in one of the raised beds 2 weeks ago. It is all starting to come up. Next week I will start on the next raised bed with different peas, mesculin lettuce, a different kind of carrots and cabbage seedlings.

My corn is going in this Friday or Saturday. Just growing popcorn this year as EVERYBODY has sweet corn for sale...Cheap!

:-X Beware what you say, where and about whom. I got a phone call today, on my private line, with regards to some of my posts on this forum. I take my hat off to the lady who tracked me down. I was in an area with limited reception so I missed your name but I look forward to speaking to you again and with your tracking skills I think you're going to become one of my new best friends. Hahaha.

Have you given your real name or something to help her identify you? I would get my panties in a bunch if something like that happened to me

Nope. I've always been very careful not to give out any information like that, but it's the world we live in today. It's like hunting. Every time that you're online you leave a foot print that an experienced tracker can use to find you.  That was my initial reaction, APX. But it's kind of like being the victim of a pick pocket. At first you're pissed, then you start thinking about how it happened and then you start to admire the artistry of it.

Then you start the serious part.  Determining how to cut that trail off at the waterfall and prevent it from happening in the future.   Then finding who that was and making sure they are on your side and not the guv being sneaky on you.

So it turns out that, as I suspected, I recycled a username one too many times and one of the incarnations wasn't quite as clean as this one.
I never expected to stick with UP because I assumed that it was going to be yet another empty shell of a forum with just the occasional halfwit hack running around, so I didn't bother with a clean handle but it turns out that at least half of you guys aren't completely retarded and occasionally post something useful or entertaining.  :))  so I stuck around.
So you guys can chill, there wasn't a hole on the UP side, it was my error. And thanks to admin for jumping around trying to determine where the breach was.

I know I haven't been around much lately but some of you guys know about the trouble that have with my back.  Well I've been trying to sort that. Decided that surgery wasn't an option so I've been working with a few specialists to find the best ways to reduce the rate of deterioration and part of that was changing my career so learning a whole new profession has been taking up pretty much all of my time. Once I'm settled I'll be back

JM, I just took a look at your garden pics.  You might wanna try to cut down a couple trees around it.  Might let some sunshine in on them.  Full blasts rather than that filtered stuff from between the trees.  Might let you grow more that 3 tates a vine.

Cleaned up the garden space, getting it well-prepped for the seeds started inside. Seemed like the garden was extra full of fall/winter debris than usual. Oh well, all those leaves can go nicely in the compost.

Thx Nemo, I did end up cutting four down.

It's amazing Crudos what accumulated in a yard over the winter. ;-)

As far as what done today, wife and I went and did our monthly grocery shopping yesterday.  Stopped here and there on the way and back.

Got a couple extra things that will go in the back of the cabinet in rotation and some other things things on the list that will go in the green cans and a couple will go in holes in the ground.  Before the next monthly trip I will review the list to see what is necessary to enhance and what bigger boxes for containing stuff are necessary.  And whats necessary to do with the bigger box.  Hate partially full boxes.

My wife and I moved two nucs to their deeps - maybe we'll get honey this year.  planning on splits next year.  started filling three raised beds with compost and dirt.  I'm experimenting with hay bale raised beds and a potato cage this year too.

I made a complete impulse buy today (something that I very rarely do, with so much on my priority list I never really get the chance). I saw glow sticks for a damned good price so I grabbed a handful. No idea what I intend to use them for but they're in my BOB now.

Besides the light benefit, pop a light stick (Pick color) instead of smoke coming back from a patrol.

Haven't posted here for a while, since I don't do what I consider traditional "prepping" activities very often, but here goes.

- Halfway done with my degree in Respiratory Therapy. Supposedly, last semester (the Hell semester) is the toughest I'll have. One more year, and I'll be employable, should be making $20/hr starting off, with benefits. Woohoo! Financial independence is on the horizon.

- Still working on our house. Was a redneck-ified, falling - apart shack (essentially) about a year ago. Father in law, a carpenter, took care of the renovation for us (looks amazing). About 80% finished, moved in February. Been working on the yard, which is a bitch. There are probably 30 distinct species of flora on this property, and we're killing and digging them up. Every. Last. One. Ultimate goal is to have a barren yard so we can plant ONE species of grass. So in another year, should look really nice.

- We're still homeschooling my daughter.  She's very smart and can be hardheaded, but I consider those really good signs. At least she won't have 8 year old boys trying to make her their girlfriend anymore, or friends from school, girls, who try to sit in her lap and make out with her on sleepover nights. :-/ (Seriously, what is wrong with those kids!?)

- Been going to a gym to work out. Gotta lose some weight and tone up so I can compete against TG in the Highlander games.

- Preparing for our third child, another boy. It's my duty to prevent the collapse of Western civilization.

Anyway, it's a hell of a lot of work, but the more we accomplish, the stronger we become, and the better I feel.

So, yeah, actively prepping to be financially independent, more healthy and confident, and helping prevent the extinction of the white race.

Carry on. :-D

You'll not prevent the collapse of Western Civilization.  But you may be getting started to repopulate it.

Sounds like your schedule is pretty full. With that written I hope you are still putting a way a few prep$ when you are able.

We've put away some canned goods, got some more yard tools, things like that. Small stuff. It will pick up a little when there's a dual income. Got a lot left to do with what we already have.

I feel your pain rah. The market is slow at the moment, sellers aren't selling and buyers aren't getting bonds so things are tight here too. At least we are experimenting with different growing techniques to see how we can get the best yield out of the least amount of space. I think I'm going to be sticking with aquaponics. Fish and plants and it basically takes care of itself once you have it going. Fresh 'matoes, rocket and green beans growing in winter!
