Cool APX!
I picked up 20 gallons of unpasteurized apple cider today. Tried a new supplier as my usual orchard closed down earlier than normal due to a 50% less apple yield this year. The owner...Jayne, recommended this other place to go to about 60 miles south of the cabin.
So I tried Jayne's suggestion and dropped off my 4, 5 gallon carboys several weeks ago. I always ask for the last pressing of the year because of the higher sugar content in the apples. Sugar = alcohol
Got a phone call last week telling me the carboys were ready to pick up and the cost would be $110- ($5 a gallon). My response was to the young lady..."For 20 gallons of unpasteurized cider you are going to charge me market price? You are smoken something and it ain't apple leaves. You and your father need to sharpen your pencil or I will pay the $110- and dump all 20 gallons in front of your retail operations front door and watch it freeze."
MrsMac and I picked up the aforementioned cider today. When I asked for the price, Mr. Father said, "$4.25- a gallon or $85- for you Obama voters. I explained to him that I have NEVER PAID more then $3- a gallon on a bulk purchase of unpasteurized cider. He then said, "OK...OK...$4- a gallon."
I told him OK but I would let Jayne know that his prices were terrible.
Mr. Father then asked me if I was going to pour the cider out in his drive-way and watch it freeze? I broke out laughing and told him "no". Payed him his $80 phuken dollars: Loaded up and headed back to the cabin.
On the way home I got an unexpected lecture from MrsMac concerning my bullying people on price. Her lecture centered around inflation - It is real and happening and I shouldn't bully small business men and women on price.
During the lecture, she also referenced a neighbor who I purchased my last chunk of wood from for the wood stove. He told me he would sell me 160 cf (Cubic feet) of seasoned wood in the 20-22" length no larger than 6" diameter for $150-. He delivered and once it was stacked, it was ~130 cf and there was about 10 cf of scrap.
Called him up and explained to him he was short 40 cf (Man O' man it sounded like a drug deal gone bad. I will not go into detail but that always ends badly for the seller when I'm involved) and asked what his plan was to make up the difference. He apologized for the miss-calc and dropped off the stove wood while we were picking up the cider today. Good deal.
During the never ending lecture from MrsMac today, I said over and over the old JohnyMac Mantra... "Yes dear you are right...It will never happen again... Yes dear you are right...It will never happen again..."
