I've often wondered what makes us all pick the names we use for this forum. I'll start. When I was a teenager, I had a t-shirt that had a picture of a mountain man on it. Everyone was always asking me who it was. I'd say "I don't know" So after a while I decided to give him a name. It had to sound mountain man like. I came up with " Hezekiah Jedidiah Moosejaw" Then as I got older, and along with the love of the outdoors and hunting, I started thinking I was probably born in the wrong era. The mountain man days seemed to be some time that would have suited me better. With all the crap nowadays , I sometimes just wish I could be living that way of life. So, HJMoosejaw became like my alter ego. LOL .......Would like to hear some of your stories!

Well, My family has always loved pixar movie's. When I was younger I made a youtube channel, But did not know what to call it. I thought of the movie up and named my channel Spiritofadventure22. After that all of my accounts are TheSpiritOfAdventure, or somthing like that and I am usually called Spirit.

When I lived in S.Cal in the late 80's, the guys I worked with started calling me JohnyMac. Which is my first and last name kind of ran together.
In '06 when I worked for the motor cycle company JohnyMac morphed into J-Mac. Some of my managers called me "Mac-Attack" when I would visit their stores like, "Oh shit here comes the Mac-AttacK" but I will not get into that right now. ;)
Well when I left the motor cycle company and started working for the sail boat company my old handle JohnyMac reapeared. It appears that my name (JohnyMac) was well known in the marine field and resurfaced.
Now on a different note: hj, I know I was born in the wrong century! I wish I had been born in the mid 1700's or the early 1800's. When I was younger I could have seen myself riding with Mosby's Rangers behind enemy lines making the Yankee's pee in their collective pants. :))
-
That's cool! I typed that into Youtube but nothing looked like it was from you. Was it discontinued or am I doing something wrong?

When I was about 9 years old, I started working as a farm hand doing manual labor on a pumpkin patch that a family friend owned. I had to do such things as pick/shuck corn, clip fields of pumpkin stems, and pick trailers full of pumpkins/gourds/squash from said fields, etc. Well if you've ever walked in a pumpkin patch, you know that the vines are everywhere, and for the first month or two, I couldn't walk through those damn fields without tripping and "Skipping" all over the place. Thus, the nickname Skippy came along.
The number "4" came about in 2004 when I was creating my AOL Instant Messenger screen name. It was going to be Skippy04, but that one was taken at the time, so then I tried Skippy004, and that one was taken as well. So I skipped the third zero and went straight for the fourth.
And my interweb alias was born.

I love it! Thanks guys for sharing and you hj for starting it. [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co

These stories are really neat! Keep 'em coming!
-
I don't really have a story. It's just a nickname I was tagged with a long time ago. I know why but I won't go into it too much. It kind of morphed from dropped the hammer.

It was discontinued so I could get a google+ It was not worth it.

I try to avoid confrontation, verbal or otherwise, if at all possible. I'll walk away from them if at all possible. Let people think what they will. I've had a shit load of them in my life and it finally got through my thick skull, they never accomplish what you want and even when you win them they usually turn out badly so you still lose.
So yeah, I'm a big fan of the happy medium. :)

Hey JohnyMac, I'm glad that being a Yankee myself, I would have been a free trapper and not had to reckon with Mosby's Rangers. I would have spent most of my time looking for BEAVER!
-
Hey Spirit, I got your reply, Thanks.
-
I'm looking forward to hearing how some of these guys came by their tags.

I just LOVE vodka, the german and russian in me goes well with it too.

Now I'm in the army so I droped the USMC Tag and am just unbroken.as a slam to my ex and because I was cleared of all medical injuries that lead to my discharge.

Gapatriot I guess thats what my youtube and blogtv name is.

You're right JohnyMac. There's nothing like a nice soft pelt. ( or as the mountain men called a pelt, a plew )

Mine's a little odd. When I was a kid, about 8, my mom was helping me study for a spelling test the next day. I was leaning up against the french doors in our kitchen when I felt a thump on the glass. When I turned around there was this beautiful wolf starring straight at me with the most ferocious looking snarl I'd ever seen. My fascination with wolves began there. After that for years I've always loved pure white wolves and often used the name "White Wolf" or "TheWhiteWolfofMegiddo" as a screen name for email or my PSN id. Funny thing is it came full circle for me over the past 6 months. I had A LOT of spare time and was researching my family tree as well as other things. First thing I was shocked to find out from my grandmother that her side of the family was half jewish. When I went a lot farther back I came to find out both my Hessian and Scottish ancestors had Jewish heritage as well. Well, long story short I managed to track the bloodline specifically down to the tribe of Benjamin. Low and behold the tribe of Benjamins banner is, guess, a white wolf and they were prophetically called the "wolf." Even the faults, blessings, and personality traits found with the tribe are consistent with my personality. It about floored me when I saw it. It's like the symbology was in my DNA lol. Another thing, my aunt has a massive wolf hybrid she got a few years ago. Solid white and about 160lbs. Awesome dog, but takes a special liking to me. All in all I say if the name fits......wear it.

Neat story WhiteWolf. It's funny, earlier I was looking through some of the tag names on this site and was looking for ones that seemed really interesting. Yours popped out at me. I thought there might be a neat story to go with it, and I was right. I almost bought a wolf hybrid some years back, but I can't remember why I didn't. Again, Great Story! Keep em coming guys.

Mine came from the age old debate of 45acp vs 9mm. It always makes me giggle a bit on the inside at some of the ignorance I read that spews from some peoples keyboards. My personal preference is 9mm for a whole host of reasons. Pretty much sums it up
-
My user ID is either...
a) My favorite breakfast cereal.
b) A nickname given to me by my 'short bus' driver because 'window licker' was already taken.
c) A pun or play on words, when combined with my "Agent 47" avatar, insinuating "serial k*****".
d) A type of sub-sonic ammo available only to V.I.P. customers of a certain Class III weapons dealer.
e) Both a & b. (scary)
f) Both c & d. (scarier)
g) All of the above. (scariest)

Mine was taken from a character in a sci-fantasy book. He was a general who, in order to save his army had to fake his and his armies death and then turn against his former masters. But i also like it because i have an affinity for good Scotch. and i just thought, well damn that's a bad ass and original name. So i claimed it as my tag and if the author ever gets pissed at me for it its his problem. [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co

hj, I built a Thompson Center kit gun a few years ago. It was a Hawken 50 cal flint lock. Thompson locks are average so I put a better spring in the lock and switched out the frizzen for a case hardened one.
I threw out the original sights (blade and buck horn) and replaced them with True Glow open optic sights.
It took me awhile to work up a load because the barrel has a 1:48 twist which doesn't lend its self well to a round ball. I use 90 Grains of FFG Gotex powder. A .022 pillow ticking patch wrapped in a .480 ball. The first shot I carry (The killing shot on deer) I put a wool wad between the patched ball & powder and do not lube the patch on the first shot. After the first shot I do not use the wad and lube the patch with my saliva.
At 50 yards I can clover leaf my hits. With the True Glow sights I can shoot 1/2 hour before dawn and after dusk.
Now my .54 cal Lancaster is totally different. :))
-
Sounds like yo got it down to a science. I got rid of my Hawken some time back. I wasn't using it as much as I would like to, so I sold it.
-
You sold it? Bummer man. I hope you got some good $$$$ for it. I am seeing used ones now from good to V-good condition running around $200-.
But we are getting off topic here. PM me with why you sold it. :))

I have dark, hard, brown eyes like coals. Before each parachute jump I would be deep in my own thoughts, and a buddy told me I had a 1000-meter stare. Jumped out of planes for 4 years, but had that look each and every time. Reviewing my training in my mind, in my own zone. People also know when I'm pissed just by looking at them, LOL. [img]http://www.smileydesign.n
-
I tried a couple of jumps (as a civilian). 1 static line 3500 ft. and 1 tandem freefall 13,500 ft. It was fun!
-
Dude try jumping on a new moon, heavy cloud cover, 3% visibility. It gets totally crazy! Most of my jumps were actually at night.
-
That sounds pretty tricky. I've always thought it must be neat when there are some clouds and a full moon lighting up the top side of the clouds. Just drifting on down through there must be pretty wild.
-
Yeah, it's a helluva view sometimes. Remember, if you see the woodline slip away! I liked the one-riser slips myself. Almost shot me sideways.
-
You lost me at the wood line slipping away and the one riser slips. Remember , I'm a novice. What did you mean? Does the wood line slipping away mean you're losing your bearings?
-
The story of Reaver is a tad bit different than most would think. lol
For the longest time I ran with the Name " Juba811 "
You guys know how I am with Insurgent Tactics and guirrilla warfare. Well, go to Youtube and look up " Insurgent Juba "
you will learn how I got my name. http://www.arrse.co.uk/at
Anyway, I don't like being shot at so decided to change my name. That incident really did effect me. I mean, I have been shot at before but never in anger.
I was watching Serenity & firefly with my boys overseas soon after. When I came up to one of the last episodes in the series and the end of the movie.
I realized that the " Reaver's " are pretty fucking bad ass.
and completely fucking crazy.
Thus.
Reaver was born.
Well, while I was deployed over seas I got shot at by an unknown Sniper.
Didn't return fire. " Because shooting back is bad now days [img)

My name is actually just a shortened version of my last name, I was so dubbed by my battle buddies. If you're in the military and your last name has more than one syllable be prepared for a nickname. By the gods we're all too damn busy to be wasting time on an extra syllable!
Example: If your name was f*ckface... they'd just call you f*ck. or face depending on who was around.
They even do it with name tapes (not syllables) but if you have some crazy long ass name they will break it down into something else or just put your shortest name (middle or last) on your name tape.

I'd tell you where I got my Screen Name, but then I'd have to kill you, it like super squirrel secret really sensitive shit.
Only the NOC list in the CIA super computer knows where I got my name from.
OK, just kidding. Its not that hard to figure out.

Initials and part of B-day?

Non-toggle parachutes use risers to steer, there are 4 in all. If you see the woodline approaching you "slip" (turn) away from it. Pull the two left risers to turn left, pull the two right risers to turn right. Pull only one of the front (either right or left) to shoot fast at a front right or left angle (whichever you choose). Pull all 4 risers down at once and your chute loses air and collapses. :o
-
Yes Johny I do love me some single-malt. But a nice straight Bourbon will tickle my Fancy from time to time.

Thanks 1000! All I got with a civilian jump was left turn, right turn and flare. You're talking about round , white chutes right? The rectangular ones have toggles. The round ones are a little harder to steer because of pulling down on the risers, Correct?

I made mine for a gamertag. Me being me, I wanted something I would use for a long time, that would represent me to a lot of other people, to say something about who I am. Part of my nickname stems from the fact that I am the descendant of a Confederate veteran, have read quite a bit on the subject, and feel that is a part of who I am. It's not just about "Southern Pride" (that overused, now-trash catch phrase), but about my actions reflecting my morals and ethics, and "rebelling" against the trends of the crowd. It reflects my fight to retain my individuality, and is probably why I've had few people I could really call friends. "rah" is just "rebelatheart." It's not meant to be badass, because I'm not. It's merely an expression of who I am.
"45" is an allusion to the American-developed and American-used caliber of ammunition. It alludes to the 1911 design that helped keep us free for over a century, and is still rockin' and rollin'. It's symbolic of the ability of Americans to be self-reliant and take care of our own. It's is not because I think it is the uber-caliber, as most of you know I own a 9mm (one day I'll get a .45 - money issues).
Anyway, that's my unexciting story. :)
WhiteWolf, yours is badass. I bet you have that memory in your head like a movie, dude. Must have been scary and awe-inspiring at the same time. You can't buy moments like that, the ones that help you to define who you are.
-

Thanks man. It was something. Funny how long I struggled with it too. Being religious as I am, and relating to the wolf as I have, I was conflicted because verses like "a wolf in sheeps clothing." I knew I wasn't that, but it's nice I found confirmation of it. Got to remember though, wolves still hunt. My prey's just a little different than the rest. ;)
-
Yeah, most of my jumping was in the 90's but we still had those round T-10 'chutes (ours were green). The rectangular or parafoils were used by those spoiled SF brats with less parachuting skill. (HAHAHA!) It's like the difference between driving a stick shift and an automatic transmission. [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co

I just made something up until I could remember my name from the LnL forums and change it. Haha. Been racking my brain trying to figure it out but I remembered!! :P

Hello TBOK. Welcome. Glad you figured out who you were. LOL.
