What's in a name?
« on: February 11, 2012, 05:07:24 PM »
I've often wondered what makes us all pick the names we use for this forum. I'll start. When I was a teenager, I had a t-shirt that had a picture of a mountain man on it. Everyone was always asking me who it was. I'd say "I don't know" So after a while I decided to give him a name. It had to sound mountain man like. I came up with " Hezekiah Jedidiah Moosejaw" Then as I got older, and along with the love of the outdoors and hunting, I started thinking I was probably born in the wrong era. The mountain man days seemed to be some time that would have suited me better. With all the crap nowadays , I sometimes just wish I could be living that way of life. So, HJMoosejaw became like my alter ego. LOL .......Would like to hear some of your stories!

Well, My family has always loved pixar movie's. When I was younger I made a youtube channel, But did not know what to call it. I thought of the movie up and named my channel Spiritofadventure22. After that all of my accounts are TheSpiritOfAdventure, or somthing like that and I am usually called Spirit.

When I lived in S.Cal in the late 80's, the guys I worked with started calling me JohnyMac. Which is my first and last name kind of ran together.

In '06 when I worked for the motor cycle company JohnyMac morphed into J-Mac. Some of my managers called me "Mac-Attack" when I would visit their stores like, "Oh shit here comes the Mac-AttacK" but I will not get into that right now.  ;)

Well when I left the motor cycle company and started working for the sail boat company my old handle JohnyMac reapeared. It appears that my name (JohnyMac) was well known in the marine field and resurfaced.

Now on a different note: hj, I know I was born in the wrong century! I wish I had been born in the mid 1700's or the early 1800's. When I was younger I could have seen myself riding with Mosby's Rangers behind enemy lines making the Yankee's pee in their collective pants.  :))

When I was about 9 years old, I started working as a farm hand doing manual labor on a pumpkin patch that a family friend owned.  I had to do such things as pick/shuck corn, clip fields of pumpkin stems, and pick trailers full of pumpkins/gourds/squash from said fields, etc.  Well if you've ever walked in a pumpkin patch, you know that the vines are everywhere, and for the first month or two, I couldn't walk through those damn fields without tripping and "Skipping" all over the place.  Thus, the nickname Skippy came along.

The number "4" came about in 2004 when I was creating my AOL Instant Messenger screen name.  It was going to be Skippy04, but that one was taken at the time, so then I tried Skippy004, and that one was taken as well.  So I skipped the third zero and went straight for the fourth.

And my interweb alias was born.

I don't really have a story.  It's just a nickname I was tagged with a long time ago.  I know why but I won't go into it too much.  It kind of morphed from dropped the hammer.

Yeah I know, but you're the one who almost always finds the happy medium in an argument.

Yeah I know, but you're the one who almost always finds the happy medium in an argument.

I try to avoid confrontation, verbal or otherwise,  if at all possible.  I'll walk away from them if at all possible.  Let people think what they will.  I've had a shit load of them in my life and it finally got through my thick skull, they never accomplish what you want and even when you win them they usually turn out badly so you still lose.

So yeah, I'm a big fan of the happy medium.   :)

Hey JohnyMac, I'm glad that being a Yankee myself, I would have been a free trapper and not had to reckon with Mosby's Rangers. I would have spent most of my time looking for BEAVER!

Mine started as Broken Angel that was given to me by my ex wife and highschool sweetheart ....it turned into Broken in the USMC. Grew into Broken 0351 on the lnly fourms. Now I'm in the army so I droped the USMC Tag and am just unbroken.as a slam to my ex and because I was cleared of all medical injuries that lead to my discharge.
