Good News!
« on: July 28, 2013, 03:35:05 AM »
So after owning a 2001 ford f150 for a year the gas and maintnence was costing a lot. So today my parents went and got a me a 2013 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner, The best part was it was just off the truck and had 7 miles on it when I cranked it up! I feel spoiled in a way but my parents wanted me to get something reliable that I can use a long time, sad thing is most kids treat nice vehicles they get like crap but im extremely grateful and will take care of it. Just thought id share the good news with you guys!

That's pretty good BWB! I got my first car when I was 29 y/o. Well, the first couple years out of school, I just hitchhiked around. Then 4 years in the Navy, I didn't need a car. Got out of the Navy at 24, had trouble finding work. Found a couple minimum wage jobs, then my son was born. His mom left, it was just him and I for a while. Hitch-hiked back and forth to work, while paying a babysitter. So, needless to say, couldn't afford a car. Had some fun with babysitters though. LOL (all, more than legal) Didn't quit any jobs until a better one came along. The hitch-hiking to work and back was a pain, but it worked. Finally, when I was 29, I got my first car. It was used, and $600.00 (didn't forget a zero, 6 HUNDRED dollars), but it ran good, and I thought I was in high cotton. Anyway, kept working, and didn't move to another job till something better came. Went back to night classes for my GED. My son came to my graduation. LOL Took a machining course, got a job with a HUGE corporation, and now make what some, (including myself) would call, really sick wages. Not bragging, cause once I bought a home, had a new boat on the lake, and a couple of nicer cars, the wife was diagnosed with her illness. (oh yeah, by this point, have a family), the housing BS happened, and I was dumb enough to have an adjustable mortgage. So the banks just sold my mortgage back and forth, raising my payments to sick amounts. Finally crawling out, BUT, now my kids all drive nicer cars than mine. The two younger ones practiced on my car, and a couple of deer and ditches later, I'm still driving it. Oh well, you want your kids to do better than you, and so far, I can't complain. The two older ones are in the workforce, paying their own ways, and the youngest is going to be a senior this year. She'll do good too. Anyway, I'm glad I still have that good job, I couldn't have crawled out without it. Didn't really intend to make it this long of a story. LOL I guess my point is, BWB, I'm happy for you, Glad your parents can help you out like that. Everybody's got their own stories. It sounds like you can appreciate the fact, that you have a nice vehicle and are not going to abuse it. Good for you. Take good care of it. Things can all change in an instant. Keep a good head on your shoulders. I'm out!

Things can all change in an instant.

This!  Truer words have never been spoken.  Sometimes for the better, usually for the worse.

Congrats and drive safely BWB.

Hey folks...What was your first vehicle?

Mine was a 1962 International Harvester Scout 4x4 that I bought for $600- too hj, in 1972. I owned it for three years and went through two rebuilt rear ends till I finally sold it for junk/parts. It had a four cylinder engine and would get a nice shimmy once you went over 60 mph. BUT that truck would climb through anything!

My second was a 1966 Chevy Impala that I bought for $100- in '75 or so. My wife called it the "swamp car" as the floor boards leaked when it rained. Nice days, summer or winter, I would leave the windows open when it was parked to keep it aired out.  :o

Our first new car was a Toyota Corolla we bought with my wife's grandmothers financial help for about $4.8K in '79.

hj, I use to hitch-hike all of the time too. Use to pack a Stoeger Luger or my Navy .36 as back-up in those days.  :gunner:

Congratz for the new truck backwoodsboy!

Help washing the dishes and taking out the trash at least :P

I would love to be able to buy a truck but you have to have too fucking much money here to buy one, the fuel and insurance costs are prohibitive.
Being an university professional with 10 years experience I got my first car at 33 yo, with help of my family and I still have to continue paying it for two years...

Is a brand new "Volkwagen Gol Trend", I think it doesn't even exist in the US, it doesn't have ABS or airbags, is a motored carriage LOL

Yeah APX, it doesn't exist in the US. Made in Brazil by VW for the South American market.

APX, one day when you have some free time, it would be great to read about the collapse that happened in Argentina, the come back of the economy and why things are so expensive. No rush... ;)

Please include the affect on you and your family. The more info the better.  ;)

I had written something some time ago you can check it at:

http://unchainedpreppers.com/forum/news/argentina-situation/

Just ask me if you want to know something in specific.
Sadly what happened isn't even close to what FerFAL says in his blog, life continued pretty much as usual but with more unemployment, and crime rates started to rise more, but I doubt that's because of the crisis of 2001.
This country is fucked up since long ago.
