Thoughts of a Veteran

JM made a very cathartic post about healing our society.

Lord knows I am with him in this.

I am now watching Blackhawk Down again and have had some rekindled thoughts.

The though I have and will continue to have is quite simple. "let it burn"

The western world should get out of the business of policing the world.

Just let the rest burn. Forget the high ideals of making the rest of the world a safe place.

Can you imagine the good that we have spent fighting other peoples fights could have made in our own nations.

Time to let the assholes burn their countries down. Lets take care of our own.

Gaget99 Before it was impossible because we weren't energy independent and had to protect and make deals with those who would like to see us dead. But now it's a different story.
Giving money and protection to evil leaders just made them more evil.
There are some of our allies that we must protect, they are few I could count them one hand.

just ruminating here - I agree.
fire purifies and strengthens.  Perhaps its time to let some of the other countries in the world grow up and take responsibility for their own destiny.  I'de rather face the future with strong allies rather than unruly adolescents at my back.

fire tends to be an equalizer treating everything in its path the same and growing up can be painful.

For a wonder I (somewhat) agree with you.  I don't think we can become completely isolationist, but we do need to draw our focus home.  We need to strengthen our country, find alternative energy sources, and prepare for the many stresses that we're going to face in the near future.  It's national self-care - how can we be better for the world if we don't get our own house in order?

Thanks all for the input.

I understand we cannot isolate ourselves. Yet I think that the western nations have done enough.

Yes there have always been less than altruistic reasons for much of what that west has done in the global sphere.

Yet II do find that as of late I am less inclined to believe that the calls of the world for western nations to protect something, stop wrong doing and such. At what point does western civilization stop having to be responsible for policing the world?

Peace all....

I agree Gadget 99%. Always hedging my bets  ;)

Currently, we have enough energy in North America to take care of USA and Canada so the old excuse of "we need to buy energy overseas" is bogus.

Other than supporting countries we have defense treaty's with, I like Gadgets point of keeping our nose out of others business.

Now with written, lets remember that the best defended position is where there are patrols going outside the wire each day. I suspect that has been the US's policy since WW II. My big thing on this topic is the Elite's are the ones deciding these things and many (not all) do it to benefit themselves and the other members of the Elite club.

When we lived in the PNW (Pacific Northwest) forest fires happened regularly. After a fire had ravaged an area the wildlife population would increase. Ground cover would increase. New tree's would start to bloom and grow. And before you know it what was ravaged was better then when it was covered with trees.
