COINS
« on: February 27, 2024, 09:01:04 PM »
Since I'm a Silver Staker, I also look at the prices of Base Metals like Copper, Nickel, Zinc, and Aluminum. Our Paper Currency is nearly worthless and soon will be totally worthless, I have been saving every coin that I get in change. I separate out the pre-1964 Silver coins, and pre-1982 pennies. With that said, I am also saving newer coins because they are going to still have some Base Metal value when the Dollar collapses. The Copper coated Zinc pennies will be worth whatever Zinc is selling for and the Nickel coated Copper Quarters will be worth whatever Copper is selling for. Nickels are about 75% Copper and 25% Nickel. When the economic SHTF, we'll have to do our own percentage math based on which coins we have. I believe that when it all goes bad, people will actually want coins instead of paper. OK, they might want some paper money if they have to take a crap. I watch a ton of You Tube economic gurus and they all say the same thing. All the fiat currencies worldwide are about to crash. Of course, I just yell at the computer screen and say, "WHEN?". It used to be "It's going to happen." Now it's "It's going to happen soon." My best guess is that it will happen before 2024 is ended. Some of the gurus say it's going to happen next month, but I've heard that kind of thing before and nothing happened. Hmmmmm... What if nothing happens? Well, then I haven't lost anything because I still have all those coins that I can spend.

Hard to fault your thinking, pkv, hard indeed.
Any thoughts here on crypto, to engage that "diversify" thingie?

Lol, PK, the "experts" always say the "event" is two weeks away or a month away, or...  We all suspect that something is coming, but only God knows when and what will happen.  All we can do is prep in the way that best suits our concerns.  I say prep, pray, and plan, but realistically I know that something could happen that I didn't prep for.

I'm finishing the third volume of the Wyoming Chronicles by W. Micheal Gear, which detail an economic collapse.  In the novels and also in Patriots by Rawles, hard currency, i.e., silver, gold, etc., are not usable except during the very initial collapse, and late in the recovery.  Food and water will be the most important items to stockpile, and of course weaponry to defend said stockpile.  The above novels do an excellent job of describing how the scarcity of food will effect the population. Mothers will kill in order to feed their kids. I wonder how many millennials have experienced extreme hunger?  Pets will run wild when food becomes scarce, and then they will become a threat and a food source.  You can't eat silver or gold... well you can, but it's not very nourishing.  I remember one of my siblings swallowing some coins, and as the physician said, "This too will pass."  And they did...

Hard currency is a great prep item, but it shouldn't be a priority.  Personally, I do indeed have some hard currency, but I tend to invest in lead based currency, i.e., cartridges.

Meanwhile, civilization plods along, totally oblivious to the storm over the horizon. I'm guessing that third world countries will be minimally effected by an economic collapse, as most of those citizens are focused primarily on producing their next meal, using basic farming techniques.  Farm tools would be a good investment, perhaps a better investment than silver or gold. Don't forget to stash some handles for those implements too!

PK I find no fault in your logic and actions.  We each need to prep in the fashion that works for us.  For Wife and me we believe the real danger is debt.  Our watch word is stay out of debt.

Of course everything could go up in smoke.  Literately or figuratively.  I find no fault in your logic and actions.

I have been trying to go similar on metal stuff myself.  Along with reproducible goods and commodities.  My wife has gotten into sewing and in cold weather a good quilt can make things much more acceptable.

As far as crypto I have issues with that.  I am not a good computer problem fixer or figure outer.  And if its a big problem with the net and/or with banks where do you transfer it into cash or transfer it to someone else in payment?

Mighty hard to get cash if the bank is closed.  And when you cash it out, there is a trail.    I am staying away from that muchly.

Speaking of any REAL VALUE of paper fiat, currency, a friend of mine used to say:

"Used paper is fifteen cents a ton: I don't care WHAT's printed on it.".

Fiat currency in general has roughly zero worth unless people are convinced that it is worth something.  If I were to invest in precious metals, I'd probably buy and can ammunition.  It has intrinsic value, is easily broken down into smaller lots for smaller trades and etc.

Prepper or Survivalist ?

A Prepper keeps survival rations for his pets.

A Survivalist  keeps pets as survival rations.

Felix: I really wanted to get into Bitcoin but I just can't get past the, "If I don't hold it, I don't own it thing." If the internet goes down, how do I retrieve it? One of our County Deputies is totally convinced that Bitcoin is the only answer. I hope he's right but I'm afraid that he's wrong.

The economic gurus all say that Fiat Currency has been tried over and over again and the average lifespan is about 100 years until it collapses. Hmmmm..... Our fiat currency system is 111 years old. I think we a are a bit overdue. Before I got into Silver, I loaded up on the other precious metals Brass and Lead. I can't protect my Silver with just a wooden stick.

I listened to an interview with James Rickards a week or some ago and he equates BitCoin as casino chips.  You trade currency for the BitCoin and before you can use it you have to trade it back to currency.  Some say it is the only answer, but I don't have any and likely won't.
