Sold Mad Max

The old saying that the best day in a boat owners life is "the day they buy and the day they sell their boat." For me it was bitter sweet when I sold Mad Max, MrsMac and my Baba 30 sailboat.

As many of you know MrsMac and I lived on Mad Max for even years with our cat Maxine the Maximum Manx (The namesake for the boat). We lived in Seattle, Marina Del Rey, Ballard, Annapolis, and Fort Pierce. We visited to many villages, towns and cities than can be named here in both the USofA and Canada on both coasts.

In 1997 we were transferred to New England from Florida and moved off of Mad Max to become landlubbers when we bought our first house. Mad Max lived during the spring summer and fall in front of our house bobby at a mooring and on occasion sailing the waters of Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New Hampshire waters. 

Well, all good books always come to an end as this one did.

The man who bought Mad Max is a super nice guy who lives in Oklahoma. He plans on using Mad Max as a floating condo based in Portsmouth, RI. On vacations, during the cruising season, he plans on using Mad Max to explore the New England coast.

She was and is a great boat.

Looks about a 30 foot.  I had the idea of sailing around the world way back in my younger days.  But then I realized I might have to eat fish alot.

If it swims I generally do not like the taste.  If I get hungry enough I would eat one but it would take a day or 6 to get hungry enough.  That idea sank like the Titanic.

I am not a big fan of fish either Nemo.

Skippered a sailboat back from Hawaii awhile back to Santa Cruz, CA. During the trip we trolled and caught Mahi-mahi and Tuna and the fresh fish was AWESOME! One of my crew was a Chef and made ceviche from the Mahi-mahi and we cut the tuna up as steaks. The meat was a welcome change from our other supplies.

On Mad Max we always trolled a line and caught salmon in the PNW and at anchor we would catch halibut and rock fish. I LOVE halibut. We would also put out crab traps and catch dungeness crabs.

MrsMac's dungy crab cakes and fried halibut is to DIE for.

It is a bitter sweet thing selling a boat. Congratulations and i'm sorry the hear it at the same time.  On a good note, think of how much time you dont have to spend next Spring getting it ready to launch......or better yet getting it hauled this Fall.  Still I know it will be missed.  A boat is one of those few material items that we sometimes treat like a member of the family.
