Smart Phone Apps (This is a good source)
« on: September 21, 2011, 04:06:34 PM »
Hi everyone I just got a smart phone not to long ago and I have found some good apps that might be good for everyone.

1-Earthquake Alert (Just started using this one)

2-Scanner Radio (I like this one and have found it useful)

3-TorWarn (Tornado warning) I just put this one in so not sure on it yet.

There are so many phone apps out there that are free and I think for us as a group can find some good ones and share them.

The Tornado one there are a few I just picked one that had the best rating and so far I really don't know how it works.

The scanner radio one is the best one I have found and have used it a lot and is really good for my area.

I'm still looking for more as I go along and will pass them on as I do find them, if anyone finds something that will help us all and keep us update and posted on whats going on please post them here.

Yeah that would be a good sticky. I have run across a few that have both iPhone and droid apps. You can download a lot of survival stuff. I have seen survival manuals for free and around 9 bucks.

The US Army Survival Guide by MILODROID is free and Army Survival Guide Lite by MOMOJO is also free.

Im just typing in the market place Survival, Weather, Police, Scanner and different key words and finding them.

What happens when your iphone apps are useless due to loss of power? Cell towers down etc?

Okay so a few people are looking at this and thinking what happens when everything goes down and our phones are no good to us. The same thing happen with this site, when everything fails this site goes to.

This is a way for everyone to keep up to date on things going on around them. I mean who wants to carry a scanner to work. The cell phone is so small and you can put earphones on and listen.

The guides as well can be used like a book, just open the app up and read and learn something. There is a lot of info out there that is free and can be used and put to use in just seconds.

The apps are new and the wave of the future and can be saved and printed out just like you would with your home computer.

They have GPS in them and no matter where you are you can use a lot of the emergency apps to find out anything at any time.

Do I think it is the only source you should prep with no it is just another way of prepping and staying in touch.

Don't take me wrong, I'm not putting you down for using a phone/e-reader.  It's just not my thing.

I've broken enough phones over the years while society is functioning (if that's what you could call it).   I'd just rather not store everything there.

Veritas,

I get what you are saying and I understand better today in what you mean. I also keep copies of things and books as well.

The cell phone apps is just a quick way to keep things and either print off the manuals for hard copies.

The scanner is a great app as well as the weather apps.
